Gifts from Sylvia

What a lovely surprise I received yesterday when I opened a little package from my stitching friend, Sylvia and found these two beautiful little patterns of hers. I am looking forward to painting or colouring the "Button Hearts" hopefully in time for Christmas!

And the Nativity will look beautiful on my tree if I can get it finished in the next few days!!
Thankyou Sylvia - just beautiful!

Christmas Celebrations in Sydney

We had a beautiful day in Sydney on Sunday celebrating early Christmas with all my family! As we live "down the coast" we often get together before Christmas because everyone is normally in different directions on Christmas Day with extended family commitments! So here is one of the tables set for lunch at my brother's house for Christmas! It was a glorious sunny day!

The yachts were sailing past, the pink frangipani was in full bloom, the champagne was cold!!!!

The girls were enjoying swimming in the pool!

And all the ladies in our family gathered for a "girls photo!! Left to right - Kate (niece), Wendy (sister), Sarah (sister in law), Shelley (pregnant niece), Skye (niece), me, Chelsea (my baby), Robyn (sister), Susan (sister), Beth (sister), Mum, Ashleigh (eldest daughter) and Joan (aunty)! Great day - great ladies!!

Christmas Tree

We drove north this morning early and bought a beautiful Christmas Tree which we have just finished decorating! Here are some of my favourite decorations! This one a beautiful cross stitch ornament given to me by one of my special stitching friends!

I loved creating this canvas work Christmas Tree design with ribbons!

My sister and her husband bought this back for me from Montana a few years ago - it is a family of moose and they are all named with the people in our family! It is really special!

And the decorated tree - not such a good photo because I cut the star off the top!! Hope you all have fun decorating your trees also!

Needlework Christmas Party!

We celebrated our Tuesday night Needlework Christmas last night with a special dinner and our Wednesday Needlework Christmas today with a special lunch! And here is lucky Norma, the winner of the embroidered quilt which was raffled within our group. One of our members, Jenny, did the beautiful quilting, and we each stitched an embroidered square to assemble. The finished result was lovely! Norma was one very happy lady as she left lunch today! Merry Christmas to all my ladies and thank you for my beautiful gift!

Here are some of the ladies enjoying lunch!

Slovenian Bobbin Lace

I had a lovely day out in Canberra yesterday with a group of girlfriends to celebrate a birthday and an early Christmas gathering! I was fortunate to have Karen as my gift person and she travelled overseas a couple of months ago and found this beautiful Slovenian bobbin lace decoration as a part of my gift. It is beautiful and I can really appreciate the time and effort which has gone into this gorgeous decoration as I tried bobbin lace a while ago and it was very time consuming for a very small result - but relaxing and peaceful nonetheless!

Sylvia is a special friend who I have stitched with for about 28 years now and we all went back and had coffee at her house and admired her beautifully decorated Christmas house and Christmas tree. Most of these decorations are handmade and gorgeous! Just beautiful Sylvia!

Christmas Humbug

I have received the most beautiful Christmas Humbug from a special friend - Gaby - in Germany! Thanks Gaby - it is absolutely beautiful and your own design too! I will treasure it and it will take pride of place on our Christmas Tree!

These are a few more photos from Ashleigh's Graduate Show on Tuesday evening. This is a beautiful dress which is made from wetsuit fabric and soft fabric, printed with a design by Ash! Clever girl!

And this is her signature poster at her Exhibition! Photos taken by Tim - her boyfriend - he's clever too!

UTS Graduate Fashion Show

Our eldest daughter, Ashleigh, has finally finished her four year degree at University of Technology in Textile and Fashion Design. We were very proud to attend her Republic of Design Graduate Fashion Show on Tuesday night in Sydney. Here are some photos!

Her final collection "Oceanic Bionic" was a swimwear range made from wetsuit fabric which she designed and printed. Some amazing colours and designs - not what you would see on the beach every day!!

And here she is in aqua blue with one of her models at the grand parade of designers at the end of the show!

And finally after four long years - she has finished! Here she is at her display in the foyer at the University of Technology in Sydney. She also won a big award with the NSW Business Chamber for her business plan which was a huge surprise on the night! Well done Ash - we are so very proud of you!

Christmas Humbug Decoration

As a lover of canvas work, I enjoy creating new and interesting pieces. I have recently created this Christmas Humbug Decoration which was sent last week overseas to a special friend for Christmas! I hope she likes it!

And this is the back of the decoration! I have used a colourful silk variegated thread with beautiful Christmas colours!

Christmas is coming!!

I enjoyed making this little open Christmas bon bon which I plan on filling with something special for someone special! It is from an Anni Downes pattern from Hatched and Patched and I really love the Christmas fabrics I chose (Nancy Halvorsen)!

This was just before I tied it up into a bon bon shape!

Country Bumpkin Inspirations

Here are a few more photos of my visit to "Country Bumpkin" in Adelaide. There was a lovely room full of books and magazines and a couple of chairs filled with beautifully embroidered cushions!

And some more cushions!

Another smocked dress which was just divine!

And row upon row of inspirational "Smocking" and "Inspirations" magazines to browse through! It was a great couple of hours for me!

Wednesday's Inspiration!

Tricia showed us this beautiful Teddy which she has made and embroidered called "Rose". She is gorgeous and very pink!

Ethel bought in her finished and beautifully framed painted embroidery which she has now completed following a class which Jenny Stephens taught at our group.

Doris has made this whimsical cross stitch - a special gift for a special daughter-in-law! We could all have one of these hanging on our wall couldn't we??

And Jenni has almost completed this bright and colourful embroidered quilt based on one of Anni Downes patterns. The colours are fantastic and the stitching superb. Well done ladies!

More of "Country Bumpkin" Store

Just a couple more photos from my visit to the "Country Bumpkin" Store! And this beautiful teddy and smocked dress were sitting on a lovely old Singer sewing machine at the door! The smocking on the dress was spectacular!

Everywhere I looked in the store was a simply irresistable view - looking back through the stained glass doors from the enclosed outside verandah, was a beautiful display of threads!

The hydrangea flowers and leaves on yet another beautifully smocked dress were exquisite!

And I have long been a fan of the beautiful "Liberty of London" lawns which have been used in this gorgeous embroidered quilt. I remember making little dresses for my girls out of "Liberty of London" lawns and falling in love with the fabric! This was sensational! I am now running out of descriptive words for this place - beautiful, gorgeous, sensational and exquisite - simply don't do justice to this beautiful haven of embroidery and needlework which I visited!

A Visit to "Country Bumpkin"

I have had a lovely morning out exploring some of the special shops in Adelaide! A visit to "Country Bumpkin" was on my list and I was not disappointed! I think I spent at least 2 hours there and the ladies were so lovely! There was a group of ladies doing social stitching so I felt right at home and had a look at what they were doing - all beautiful work!

The smocking is to be seen to be believed - it is exceptional! And the best thing was all the beautiful samples from the pages of "Inspirations" magazine which were all around the shop and surrounds - very inspiring!

A beautiful Christmas tree decorated with gorgeous smocked Christmas decorations greeted me at the door!

And here is a close up of just one of the stunning smocked decorations! Can you tell how much I enjoyed myself??

Sights of Adelaide!

David and I are in Adelaide for a couple of days for work and this morning we wandered through the Adelaide Central Markets - full of fantastic foods, sights and smells! We enjoyed breakfast in a tiny cafe buzzing with atmosphere and great coffee!

Beautiful fresh and colourful fruits and this enormous basket of free range eggs!

We headed out to Glenelg on the tram for lunch and after a particularly salty Italian bruschetta for lunch (full of olives and anchovies) one of us enjoyed a beautiful lemon gelato!! Yum !!

Favourite form of transport other than walking was the tram ride to Glenelg!
