Christmas Humbug Decoration

As a lover of canvas work, I enjoy creating new and interesting pieces. I have recently created this Christmas Humbug Decoration which was sent last week overseas to a special friend for Christmas! I hope she likes it!

And this is the back of the decoration! I have used a colourful silk variegated thread with beautiful Christmas colours!

Christmas is coming!!

I enjoyed making this little open Christmas bon bon which I plan on filling with something special for someone special! It is from an Anni Downes pattern from Hatched and Patched and I really love the Christmas fabrics I chose (Nancy Halvorsen)!

This was just before I tied it up into a bon bon shape!

Country Bumpkin Inspirations

Here are a few more photos of my visit to "Country Bumpkin" in Adelaide. There was a lovely room full of books and magazines and a couple of chairs filled with beautifully embroidered cushions!

And some more cushions!

Another smocked dress which was just divine!

And row upon row of inspirational "Smocking" and "Inspirations" magazines to browse through! It was a great couple of hours for me!

Wednesday's Inspiration!

Tricia showed us this beautiful Teddy which she has made and embroidered called "Rose". She is gorgeous and very pink!

Ethel bought in her finished and beautifully framed painted embroidery which she has now completed following a class which Jenny Stephens taught at our group.

Doris has made this whimsical cross stitch - a special gift for a special daughter-in-law! We could all have one of these hanging on our wall couldn't we??

And Jenni has almost completed this bright and colourful embroidered quilt based on one of Anni Downes patterns. The colours are fantastic and the stitching superb. Well done ladies!

More of "Country Bumpkin" Store

Just a couple more photos from my visit to the "Country Bumpkin" Store! And this beautiful teddy and smocked dress were sitting on a lovely old Singer sewing machine at the door! The smocking on the dress was spectacular!

Everywhere I looked in the store was a simply irresistable view - looking back through the stained glass doors from the enclosed outside verandah, was a beautiful display of threads!

The hydrangea flowers and leaves on yet another beautifully smocked dress were exquisite!

And I have long been a fan of the beautiful "Liberty of London" lawns which have been used in this gorgeous embroidered quilt. I remember making little dresses for my girls out of "Liberty of London" lawns and falling in love with the fabric! This was sensational! I am now running out of descriptive words for this place - beautiful, gorgeous, sensational and exquisite - simply don't do justice to this beautiful haven of embroidery and needlework which I visited!

A Visit to "Country Bumpkin"

I have had a lovely morning out exploring some of the special shops in Adelaide! A visit to "Country Bumpkin" was on my list and I was not disappointed! I think I spent at least 2 hours there and the ladies were so lovely! There was a group of ladies doing social stitching so I felt right at home and had a look at what they were doing - all beautiful work!

The smocking is to be seen to be believed - it is exceptional! And the best thing was all the beautiful samples from the pages of "Inspirations" magazine which were all around the shop and surrounds - very inspiring!

A beautiful Christmas tree decorated with gorgeous smocked Christmas decorations greeted me at the door!

And here is a close up of just one of the stunning smocked decorations! Can you tell how much I enjoyed myself??

Sights of Adelaide!

David and I are in Adelaide for a couple of days for work and this morning we wandered through the Adelaide Central Markets - full of fantastic foods, sights and smells! We enjoyed breakfast in a tiny cafe buzzing with atmosphere and great coffee!

Beautiful fresh and colourful fruits and this enormous basket of free range eggs!

We headed out to Glenelg on the tram for lunch and after a particularly salty Italian bruschetta for lunch (full of olives and anchovies) one of us enjoyed a beautiful lemon gelato!! Yum !!

Favourite form of transport other than walking was the tram ride to Glenelg!

Creative Friends!

This is Tricia's gorgeous patchwork "Ted" which she has made to sell at the Craft Fair this weekend. Behind "Ted" are two lovely baskets which will be 2nd and 3rd prize in the Raffle - our beautiful embroidered quilt is first prize!!

Leslie showed us her not quite finished Christmas Stocking for her grandson Jack. The stitching is beautiful Leslie - we know he will love it!

And Jennifer has been busy making items for the Craft Fair including lots of these fabulous little Christmas Trees!

Felt Journal Cover

I am having a bit of a finishing off and making session at the moment and have completed this felt journal cover/diary cover/recipe book cover or whatever!! I enjoy working with felt because it has a bit of "give" and is easily stitched on! This is another project our Needlework group will be doing in the near future!

Embroidered Coin Purse

Here is the little embroidered coin purse which I have finished - very handy and quick to make. It has a great little flexible clasp for opening and closing and would be great to put a special little Christmas gift into!

This Weekend I have .....

Had my workbasket out and organised a little bit of stitching!

Washed the day bed covers and then had a bit of a read and relax on the day bed in the sun!

Spent some time in the garden at our place and our son's (next door) cleaning up before his arrival home from an overseas posting! Only 1 hour to go till he arrives!!

Fresh Flowers

Our needlework group meets in our local Anglican Church Hall and this morning Barb came in to arrange some flowers in the church. She arrived with this beautiful basket of blooms ready to place in vases and it looked so lovely I took a photo!

These beautiful gardenias are growing in the garden at the church too - can't you just smell their beautiful fragrance?

And this morning Marianne, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, bought in a couple of her finished projects - blackwork and a felt christmas decoration! Also lovely!

Crewel Embroidery

I have finally sewn together my crewel embroidery needlecase which I had been working on a while ago! The floral design is based on a "Roseworks" pattern which I had from ages ago! Love doing the embroidery part but not really enjoying the putting together!

And this is the inside - four packets of my favourite Piecemakers needles!

Pincushions & Scissor Keepers

Here are some finished and well used pincushions which some of the ladies at Stitching on the Lake are using!

Love this "Larry the Lamb" pincushion made from an Annie Downs kit. The felt needlecase is one which we did a couple of years ago!

And this lovely blue scissor keeper was another sewing treasure which we made a while ago! Doesn't it look great on these scissors?

Stitchers Angel Gifts

I have been blessed today to receive a beautiful package of Stitchers Angel gifts from Jeanette in Finland. They are absolutely beautiful and I thought I would share them with you. She has made me a beautiful gift bag, crocheted rose, oven mitt, and pincushion and also sent some beautiful Rose napkins and a lovely Rose hanger! How lucky am I?? Thanks so much Jeanette if you are reading this - I love them to bits!

We have both participated in Hugs & Kisses (Helen's) "Stitchers Angel" project swap (see the button on the side of my blog for more information) and I have also made some "Rose" projects for my recipient who lives on the other side of the world. I can't share the pictures with you yet because she hasn't received them yet! Jeanette - you have made my day!

Beautiful Stitching!

Trish has made this beautifully stitched teddy bear with embroidery over most parts of its body! It really is very beautiful and would be a delight for a special little person!

And Mary Rose shared her completed and framed canvas work stitchery which she started at the Stitching on the Bay day a few weeks ago! Beautifully done Mary!

Needlebook Exchange

I have recently participated in a Needlebook exchange and here is the Needlebook I have posted off last week to the other side of the world. I hope the recipient likes her gift! I made a Victoria Sampler pattern which I enjoyed stitching!

A Collage of Pink Ladies!

Tonight I took a larger version of this collage to Needlework with me to show the ladies how fabulous they all looked in their pink gear last week when we celebrated "Girls Night In" and "Girls Morning In" for Breast Cancer Research! I thought they all looked so good and we raised such great money for research that I laminated a big version of this collage and put it on the wall in the church hall!

Glimpses of Embroidery

This is a little corner of one of the projects I have now sent away for the Stitchers Angel projects. Can't show the whole piece because it's meant to be a surprise until the recipient gets it! A bit of embroidery with silk and silk ribbons have been used!

And another little piece - flowers in a garden! The theme was "Roses" so there are a couple in this little garden!

A bit blurry but this brazillian embroidery has some abstract roses on it! Will be able to show the three items in full shortly when they are received on the other side of the world!! If you want to know about the Stitchers Angel projects, click on the button on your right and it will take you there!
