Redwork Angel Quilt

Hi,
The ladies from our Needlework Group were each given a design and asked to stitch it in red thread. Here is the end result - a beautiful redwork quilt, adapted from designs by Annie Downs from her Angel Book. We made two beautiful quilts which were raffled at the end of 2008 and the two lucky ladies who won were thrilled to bits! Local charities in our area will benefit from the funds raised. It might be a great idea for your group of stitching girls!! Click on the photo for a closer look!

Canvas Work Christmas Decoration

Hi,
This is one of my favourite Christmas Decorations from 2008! It started out as a design for a canvas work "present", wrapped with ribbon but the ribbon got too difficult to tie on top ... so this is the end result! I hung it on a red bottle brush tree in our garden to photograph and it came out quite well really! I am now working on my first Christmas decoration for 2009 - I aim to make one each month this year! Let's see if that happens! Fiona x

My Button Collection

Hi,
While working on a current project, I had to rummage through one of my button tins for just the right button! You know how it is! These buttons are kept in a replica Singer Sewing Machine tin which a friend gave me a while ago. Not quite big enough for all my buttons, but a small selection is kept in here. I always manage to find what I need! And I was not disappointed this time - three buttons fitted my design perfectly - picture coming soon!!

My Desk

Hi. This is a part of my work area where I try to be creative! Since moving to our new house a little while ago, I don't really have as much room, but my husband will tell you that my needlework has taken over in every room! My sewing machine is hidden under the cover, Henry the Teddy was a gift from my friend Karen (and made by her) about 8 years ago, and one of my work baskets is full of bits and pieces I am working on at the moment! It looks pretty tidy at the moment - but it wasn't before I took the photo! Have a great day!

Some of my Needlework Ladies

Hi,
Here is a photo I found over the weekend whilst browsing through some Needlework things. This is a group of my Needlework ladies at a Christmas gathering a couple of years ago. It is so nice to gather together with these ladies each week - all with a common interest in stitching and socialising! As you can see, we meet in our local Anglican Church Hall and always have lots of fun!

Happy Australia Day!

Happy Australia Day! We celebrated in true "aussie" style with a tea and toast with vegemite for breakfast and then down to the beach for an hour or two of relaxing in the water - snorkelling and reading! Not many people on the beach as you can see! A lamington after lunch and life doesn't get much better than this! Now settling in for some embroidery and creativity this afternoon! And enjoying a BBQ for dinner! What a great way to spend Australia Day!

Collage of Embroidery Projects

Hi,
Here is a collage of some embroidery projects made over the past year or so. In the top left hand corner is a tiny photo of Lisa, Sylvia and I taken about 10 years ago! We all were involved in a lovely needlework group with some really lovely ladies. Unfortunately Sylvia moved "over the mountain" with her family and Lisa retired from social stitching and took up paid employment. I am still stitching and organising the needlework group and it is one of the highlights of my busy week!

Playing with Picasa Collages!

Playing around with Picasa 3 on the computer and made a collage of summery days at the beach and family fun! Very hot here yesterday and about the only good thing to do was to sit in the water at the beach! Very pleasant! Must really get off the beach and into some stitching!

Beautiful fabrics

Hi,
A lovely parcel of beautiful fabrics arrived in the post yesterday! The latest "Homespun" magazine has a fantastic project named "Breast of Friends Quilt" in which a number of well known quilters have contributed squares made from the gorgeous "In the Pink II" range of fabrics from Leutenegger. All in memory of those affected by breast cancer. I really loved the idea of the quilt and like the first two designs in the magazine, so ordered some fabrics to start - hopefully will keep on track and be finished in time for "Pink" month in October! The first two blocks are designed and made by Leanne Beasley and Bronwyn Hayes. It is so nice to run your hand over crisp new fabrics in such lovely colours! So... here they are! If you click on the photo and enlarge it you can see how pretty they are.

Grevilleas

Hi,
Just playing about with the camera and looking for "inspiration" in my garden for my projects and I came across lots of beautiful coloured grevilleas, some with bees busy at work! Here is one from my garden! Sounds like I am a gardener doesn't it?? But those of you who know me know I am not!
Enjoyed a lovely lunch with Lisa from Plain Jane Creations yesterday overlooking the river near where I work. She creates fabulous knitted and felted bags - it is well worth a visit to her site! She gave me some great blogging tips which I am trying to implement here! Thanks!

Rock Pools

Hi,
Wandering along the beach I came across some really interesting rock pools which lend themselves to a bit of creative embroidery. The colours were amazing and really interesting patterns had been created by the time and tides. Am playing with a design in my head - just need to transfer it to paper! So very hot here today - came home from work and went straight to the beach for a swim - so refreshing and relaxing - just what we needed!

My Sewing Basket...

Hi ... This is my sewing basket with all the bits and pieces for the current projects I am working on! The top is embroidered with a garden scene with a little embroidered pincushion affixed and the inside is full of threads, silk ribbon, beads and braids that I am using to create my projects for classes for the beginning of this year - a bit messy I know! However, when these projects are finished I roll all the cottons and ribbons up and put them away and then get out another lot of different colours and make a bit of a mess while creating the next few projects! It works for me! What does your sewing basket look like?

31 years!

Hi - today is the anniversary of the day I met my wonderful husband 31 years ago. We met on a blind date organised by a friend in Sydney. We had a lovely lunch with a couple of friends and as they say "the rest is history"!!
So today I thought I would just share with you a product of that meeting 31 years ago - our family - Sam (24) Ashleigh (22) Elliott (20) and Chelsea (18)!
In the photo - Elliott, Fiona, Sam, Chelsea, David and Ashleigh.
We celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary on 20th March this year and as you can see I am the shortest!!

Inspirational flowers

Lots of inspiration for my creative embroidery projects comes from things I see each day ... flowers in the garden, a scene at the beach, photos I have taken, cards I have received and many other sources. With my new camera (a gift from Santa!) I have been capturing lots of ideas for my needlework group for this year. Here is another floral pincushion with painted background created last year for the "stitching ladies"!

Monday Working Day

Well today is Monday and I have been at work! I work as a legal secretary and in my "spare time" I like being creative! It works well for me! I work in a little town on a river about 45 minutes south of where I live. This is the view from just near our office. Very peaceful!

More Pincushions

Just love stitching little pincushions of any shape and size - so here is one pumpkin pincushion together with a little cross stitched hanging which was a gift from a friend!

Recent Stitching Projects

The purpose of my blog is to catalogue my stitching projects, keep in touch with like minded friends, and keep my "embroidery ladies" informed of what's happening and what they can expect in the coming year! So... here are a couple of recently finished projects!
