Kits for Stitching on the Lake

Busy busy here tonight packing up all the kits to transport to Canberra for the Stitching on the Lake and Queanbeyan Stitching Days this weekend! It's always fun to make up the kits and get everything organised so that when the days finally arrive we have a great time! Here are some of the many felt work kits for the day!

And just a few of the canvas work kits!

And finally the stitcher's cone kits! Lots of hard work goes into these stitching days by Sylvia and I, but the reward at the end is the great day we have with the ladies and the good friends we have met along the way! Happy Stitching!!

Wednesday Ladies

My clever Wednesday ladies have been very busy being creative lately! While I was away, lots of interesting projects have been made! Shirley has been making lots of little turtles and elephants for her daughters and friends! Lovely bright colours!

And Jan has been making a fabulous dinosaur quilt for a special little person! Here are some of her stitcheries! Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

And Shirley has also made this fabulous owl bag !

Elaine has been stitching this beautiful quilt with different embroidered panels from the "Inspirations" magazine. This will be just gorgeous when completed!

More Stitching on the Lake Projects!

Some more projects to whet the appetite of the ladies coming to the "Stitching on the Lake" day on Saturday and the "Queanbeyan Quilters Stitching Day" on Sunday! This folder cover is for your folder to keep all your stitching notes handy and tidy!

This lovely felt bookmark has a beautifully painted button attached!

And this canvas work needleroll will keep your needles safe and secure when not in use! We are really looking forward to our weekend of stitching! Have a look at Sylvia's blog also for some photos!

Stitching on the Lake Projects

Sylvia and I are having our "Stitching on the Lake" Day in Canberra this Saturday 1st May. We thought we would share our projects with some of the ladies so they can have a sneak peek at what they will be doing on the day! This "Stitcher's Cone" is filled with sewing bits and pieces!

This small felt wallet with applique and embroidery will keep your treasures safe!

And this very cute little notebook cover will brighten up your very ordinary little notepad!

Canvas Work

As I was sitting at my computer this afternoon writing some notes I realised I was being watched by this Crimson Rosella! It was very interested in what I was doing inside!

Here is a sneak peek at the canvas work needle roll we will be doing next week at Stitching on the Lake in Canberra! I have really stepped outside my comfort zone with some very bright colours (and with a little gold thread) but I'm happy with the result!

And this is a matching scissor keeper humbug which we are doing in a couple of weeks at our Needlework Group and also at a class I am teaching further south at Bodalla Embroiderers! The humbug has some beads and gold thread to make it even brighter and I have attached it to my favourite pair of embroidery scissors!

Anzac Day 2010

Anzac Day falls tomorrow and I have just waved off my husband and his 88 year old Dad this afternoon who are travelling to Sydney for the Anzac Day march! Anzac Day is a day of reflection, great pride for some and memories of lost loved ones for others. Please keep all our soldiers, both past and present, and their families in your prayers tomorrow.

Beautiful Scissor Keeper

I received this most beautiful package the other day from an absolute Angel - Liz in the Netherlands! I participated in a scissor keeper exchange and had not received a parcel. Upon my return from overseas I received a little package containing this beautifully stitched scissor keeper and scissor pocket. Thank you so much Liz - I absolutely love it!!

This is the back of the scissor holder - how gorgeous are the colours and the stitching? What a very special gift to brighten my day! Thank you Liz!

Creative Ladies!

This is the beautiful quilt Sue is making for her grand daughter! The colours are great and the quilt is very bright and happy - I'm sure she will be thrilled to bits when she gets it!

Sue was placing her quilt out to see how it was working out on Wednesday morning and it sparked lots of interest amongst the ladies. The stitching is beautiful!

And Jennifer is stitching this beautiful little quilt from Jenny of Elefantz! Again, the colours and stitching are just gorgeous!

And a close up of another block - I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt Jennifer!

Chelsea Bloom Quilts

Here are a couple of new versions of the very popular "Chelsea Bloom" quilt which some of the Wednesday ladies have made. Jacqueline has made these two fabulous versions - this blue one has such gorgeous fabrics!

Another of Jacqueline's - using brighter colours and chenille fabric around the borders! These both look great!

And on Wednesday morning, Jacqueline was wearing this very funky brooch which had been made for her from felt and crochet by some of the grandchildren of her friend, Frances! Very creative children - the brooch looks fantastic!

Beautiful Blackwork

This beautiful blackwork project has been completed by the "Blackwork Queen", Shirley, one of my Wednesday Needlework ladies! Shirley has produced so many exquisite blackwork pieces over the past few years - she is an inspiration to us all!

And she also made this beautiful card for her special friend, Mary, whose birthday it is this week!
And she also made these beautifully knitted characters! Her hands are never idle! Here are Shirley and Mary taken yesterday with Mary on the right holding her gift from Shirley which is a knitted chef holding a birthday cake with 1 candle (if you look closely you'll see that Mary is really turning 87 this week!) These two are a fantastic example of how to look at life with fun and laughter as the years advance! Lovely to stitch with you ladies! And Happy Birthday Mary!

A Gardener's Journal

I have been inspired to join the Stitch-A-Long group who are working through "A Gardener's Journal" by Anni Downes! I have had this book for a while with this project in mind and have picked some fabrics from my "stash" to work with. As I love stitching with DMC 221, I have decided a country redwork theme would be good with these fabrics! I am a bit late in joining the group as I have been away for a month, but will catch up no doubt! Off to trace the first block now!

Tuesday Night Stitching

It was nice to get back to Embroidery last night after a month away! The ladies had been very productive whilst I was away! Narelle has finished off this beautiful butterfly table runner!

Dianna had finally completed this lovely yet complicated cross stitch project which she has been working on for a while!

Helen has made this tea towel for a special friend!

And Carol is stitching these beautiful little panels on a printed fabric background to make a quilt! They are all beautiful and I'm delighted to see that the ladies' hands have not been idle in my absence!

More Stitching Day Pictures!!

Here are a couple more photos from our Stitching Day with the Capital Crafters in Canberra! This is one of the bags which held the kits and instructions - "I love to stitch" sums it up really!

Here is Jen's stall - she kindly organised the day for us and bought along her kits and designs on the day!

And here is one group of ladies enjoying themselves and looking very busy!

And another group hard at work!

Capital Crafters Stitching Day Canberra

Sylvia and I enjoyed a great day of stitching with the ladies from the Capital Crafters Group in Canberra yesterday. We met some lovely new stitching friends and all enjoyed some fabulous food and quality "time out". Some of the projects we made were this painted pincushion with embroidery!
And we also made this embroidered folded photo album! This is Sylvia's version with photos of her eldest daughter's wedding! Very beautiful.
We also made this useful felt bookmark which the ladies enjoyed making!
And it is always lovely to see the ladies' sewing bits and pieces - this is Lyn's beautiful case which was made for her by a friend in Townsville. I just loved the colours and the size of this great case which held "sewing bits and pieces"! We had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed our teaching time up in Canberra!

Back from Nepal

We have finally arrived home today after one month of trekking through Nepal and then a short break in Thailand on the way home! We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary while we were high in the mountains in Nepal! And this is the day of our anniversary at 3600m in the Langtang National Park!

We met some gorgeous people along the way including this lady in a small village who desperately wanted me to buy her beautiful necklace! So I obliged!

And ever on the lookout for "crafty" items - we came across lots of knitted hats, scarves, socks and gloves - these made a wonderful and colourful display in a small tea house on our trek!

Our guide, Shanti, proved to be "creative" also. Here she is teaching the owner of a small tea house which we stayed in, how to crochet a different sort of pattern! See ... wherever I may be in the world... I seem to find creative and crafty people! And getting right back into creative days ... Sylvia and I are having a stitching day at Duntroon this Saturday which we are both looking forward to. Have a look at Sylvia's blog for some photos of our projects for the day!
