Bannisters - A Weekend Away!

This is not a stitching related post at all .... but I have been very spoilt and had the most gorgeous weekend away with my equally gorgeous husband!   For my birthday in May he gave me a weekend away at a very special place called "Bannisters" at Mollymook on the south coast of New South Wales.    Well... this weekend we were able to "getaway" and thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing weekend.   This beautiful bunch of flowers from David was waiting for me when we arrived!

This is a view which was very hard to take each morning as we woke up!   No whales in sight but a spectacular view just the same!
From our breakfast table, this was what we looked at!   The food was delicious but I didn't take any photos .... I was way too interested in eating it!
We walked, swam, lazed in the sun, read books, ate, drank cocktails and simply relaxed!  It was beautiful ..... shame it's Monday and a work day tomorrow!!

Happy 80th Birthday Mum

Today is my mum's 80th birthday!    We had such a lovely time in Italy celebrating her birthday last month, but today is her actual birthday!   So... happy birthday Mum!   Here she is throwing ANOTHER coin in the Trevi Fountain in Rome so she can return AGAIN!!

Finished Projects

The Tuesday night Needlework ladies have been busy finishing off some projects - Lyn has finished this little Santa applique hanging which we made a while ago.   The colours are great and she is working towards being ready for Christmas!

And Shirley H has been finishing off some little bits and pieces - this lovely little angel stitchery is cute and makes a great hanging decoration!

And this is Shirley's finished "Joy" decoration from a couple of weeks ago.  She has also finished off the tea towels in the background!  Busy girl!

And this lovely dove of peace tea towel is simply too nice to dry up dishes with Shirley!

More of Stitching on the Lake

Some more photos of our "Stitching on the Lake" day yesterday and the first one are some of the lovely finished projects from our previous Stitching Days which one of the ladies had finished off and bought for our Show and Tell time!

And here is a beautiful "Show and Tell" with a difference!!   The gorgeous Danielle and her delightful and cuddly little baby Tyler - his first stitching day!!   And I got to have a cuddle too!   Have a close look at the beautiful bullion stitch bunnies on his bib - embroidered by his great grandmother I believe!

Here is another great biscornu finished off in a lovely shade of variegated green thread!   A special gift from a special stitching friend I believe!

And here is Lynne's finished felt bird from yesterday!   It looks really nice on the cream felt and the tail feathers are curled beautifully Lynne!  Well done to all the ladies who finished projects off yesterday!    A great sense of achievement for some!    We had a great couple of Saturdays with all our ladies and look forward to next year (which will roll around all too quickly I expect)!!

Stitching on the Lake

What a fabulous day we all had yesterday at the second "Stitching on the Lake" day in Canberra.  Again we were fortunate to have Hobbysew Belconnen and Rebecca from "Cute as a Button" with their stalls of tempting shopping!    This lovely Nancy Halvorsen pattern was on the front of the Rebecca's stall!

The ladies all enjoyed themselves and were busy stitching away and chatting merrily!   Some had finished off a project by the end of the day and some had made a start on a couple of different projects which was a great idea!      It was really a very pleasant way to spend a day!!

Stitching on the Lake again this Saturday!!

Our second "Stitching on the Lake" day is on again in Canberra this Saturday! Here is a collage of the projects for the ladies who will be attending!

These are some of the ladies from last weeks class enjoying themselves - stitching a little, laughing a little, eating a little ......

More happy stitchers! Let's hope the weather is kind to us this Saturday - last Saturday morning it snowed on the way to the Church before the stitching day began!

And here are lots of the ladies hard at work! I don't think anyone knew this photo was being taken!! We are really looking forward to catching up with all our stitching friends again this weekend! And probably more photos to come too!

Girls Night In/Girls Morning In

Here are my lovely Wednesday Needlework ladies this morning at our "pink" Girls Morning In to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research! Almost everyone had something pink on and we had a lovely morning stitching the little pink ribbon pincushion and enjoying each others company!

And the food from last night's "Girl's Night In" and this morning had to be seen to be believed! It was mostly pink!!! We had fabulous pink scones with jam and cream, pink pikelets, shortbread with pink filling, little biscuits with pink centres, musk sticks, beautiful cakes with pink icing, gluten free cake with pink icing, pink lamingtons and pink marshmellows!!! Is your mouth watering now ??

Here are Beth and Asta in the kitchen last night deciding on what to have for their "pink" supper! Asta cracked us all up as she told us the only pink item she had was her dressing gown, so she wore it all night!! You can really only get away with that with a group of like minded women!!

And here we all are celebrating the funds raised from last night and this morning which totalled over $400.00!! Well done ladies - thanks for joining in the fun for such a worthwhile cause!

Pink Ribbon Pincushion

This week at Needlework we will be having "Girls Night In" and "Girls Morning In" to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. I have made this cute little pink ribbon pincushion for the ladies to make from a free pattern I found on the internet. I especially liked it because it has a heart in the middle of the ribbon. I have backed the pincushion with this lovely "Curlie Hearts" fabric by Loralie Harris - part of the proceeds of the sale of this fabric will go to Breast Cancer Research also. I'm hoping we have lots of fun and raise some funds for such a worthwhile cause. Hopefully I will have lots of "pink" photos to show you! There has even been mention of "pink" scones which will be very interesting!!

More Stitching on the Lake

We were very fortunate to have Rebecca from "Cute as a Button" bring her stall of goodies to our Stitching on the Lake day. She has the most amazing range of Art to Heart by Nancy Halvorsen fabrics and patterns and lots of them have been made up which is always great incentive to buy! Here is part of her lovely display!

And I could have bought home this whole tray of fat quarters! Such beautiful rich colours!

And Najelle and Cathy from Hobbysew at Belconnen ACT also bought a great stall - lots of necessary little items for stitching minded ladies! Great baskets of fat quarters and lots of lovely accessories and books and patterns!

And what more can I say about the food? Scones were delicious and we each had our own little individual pots of strawberry jam! Soooooo good .......yum! There was stitching done too!! Not just eating!!

Stitching on the Lake

We had such a fabulous day at "Stitching on the Lake" in Canberra yesterday! Sylvia and I always enjoy ourselves when the stitching days finally arrive and all our creating and work is so appreciated by the ladies who attend. Thanks for coming ladies and making our day so special! Here are Kay and the ladies at her table enjoying a laugh with Sylvia!

New friendships are made at our Stitching Days - here Sue, Elaine, Krystina and Sandra are all enjoying each other's company, whilst being creative!

Mother and daughter stitchers, Fiona and Rhonda, enjoying a day of peaceful stitching together!

And of course we all loved Rebecca's fabulous food throughout the day - these little cupcakes for afternoon tea made for a wonderful display and pretty good eating too! A morning that started with snowflakes and rain, turned into a sunny but windy day outside so it was a good day to be inside stitching with lots of friends!

Redwork Angel Decoration

I almost forgot to post this photo of the redwork version of the Angel Decoration for "Stitching on the Lake". I have also worked the blackwork version shown a couple of posts ago! I absolutely love this strawberry fabric which I have had for a long time so it was nice to use it on the bottom and the back of this hanging decoration. I have used 18# ecru aida for this piece and DMC colour 321. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in my house as I have started making decorations! I plan on being so very organised for this year!

Colours for the Christmas Stocking

With the two "Stitching on the Lake" days fast approaching, I have been asked by lots of ladies what colours I have used on this Stocking. The colours used are DMC threads - purple 3834, green 3346, hot pink 917, lime green 166, mauve 3740, and yellow 3820. I have also used a variegated thread and unfortunately it didn't have a label on the piece I had left as I had rolled it onto a card. Can anyone help out with any ideas for the variegated thread colour? I hope this helps those ladies who are choosing their colours for stitching for the "Stitching on the Lake Day" this Saturday!! Looking forward to seeing you all!!

Counted Thread Christmas Decoration

This is the counted thread Christmas Decoration we are doing this week at Needlework! This is a simple yet effective decoration which would be a great "surprise" gift for our Needlework Christmas Party (for those of you who are stuck for ideas!!) It is an adapted Cross Stitcher pattern from way way back! A simple night of stitching to complete this project!

"Stitching on the Lake" Projects

For some reason my computer wouldn't let me post these three pictures together - so I had to enter them separately! This is the sixth project for our "Stitching on the Lake" days in Canberra over the next two Saturdays! This lovely stitched Christmas Star will brighten up your Christmas!

Another Stitching on the Lake Project!

This is another cute stitchery project we will be doing at "Stitching on the Lake". It looks fabulous in these great Christmas colours and can be a small hanging or cushion - whatever takes your fancy!!

More Stitching on the Lake Projects!

This is another of our "Stitching on the Lake" projects! This embroidered bird decoration is fun to make and easy to stitch and will look great on your Christmas Tree!!

Stitching on the Lake Projects

These are three of the projects we will be doing at the "Stitching on the Lake" days in Canberra over the next two Saturdays! Sylvia and I have been busy putting the final touches to kits and projects for the days and we are really looking forward to getting together with all our stitching ladies for a couple of days of fun and laughter and stitching! This canvas work stocking is bright and breezy but could also be stitched in your favourite Christmas colours!

This cute little blackwork angel has been made into a hanging pillow decoration and we just love the versatility of the fabulous old favourite - ric rac braid from years gone by! There will be a redwork version of this project also!

And this cute little "pear" hanging felt decoration has some embroidery in various colours and a lovely gold "jingle bell" at the top! These are just some of the projects to whet the appetites of the ladies attending "Stitching on the Lake"!

Assisi Embroidery

These are a couple of bookmarks I purchased in the beautiful town of Assisi in Italy! I loved the simplicity of the Assisi Embroidery which is worked by stitching the background and leaving the design unstitched. We wandered the streets of Assisi and marvelled at the stone work and the beautiful little shops and the embroidery of course!

I couldn't resist this little mat which was being finished off by the lady in one tiny shop - I waited until she finished it and then purchased it - so it really is very special!

And this is a pinkeeper I have recently finished - using one of my favourite DMC variegated threads and working a Gift of Stitching design!

Tuscan Treats!

Just putting my holiday photos in order and thought this was too good not to share with you! We purchased this "gift" in a little shop in Sansepolcro! It was the cutest shop with the most beautiful things to purchase! How nicely presented is this little package??

Open up the package and here is a little tray of the most delicious little cakes and tarts! We bought an assortment, went outside and ate nearly all of them (between 5 of us that is!!). Is your mouth watering at this point? Mine is, just with the memories!

The shop also made these beautiful hand made chocolates! Such gorgeous presentation but we did resist the temptation of the chocolates!

Another Gift Received

When I returned from holidays I was greeted with a huge pile of mail! Amongst that mail was another lovely gift - a pinkeep from an exchange group I am involved in. I received this lovely pinkeep from Vivian in Nova Scotia, Canada! The stitching is beautiful and the colours are fantastic! Thanks Vivian!

I thought the colours in the grevillea in my garden matched the pinkeep perfectly so chose to photograph it in my garden amongst the grevillea! That is ... in between rain showers which are playing havoc with our Long Weekend here in New South Wales! Not to worry though - it makes for good stitching time! I hope everyone is enjoying their Long Weekend! For me it is back to work on Tuesday after one month away and I'm not really looking forward to that!
