Stitching Lanyard

I have been away to Sydney again this weekend - more moving of furniture into apartments for the children! I think we have finally finished and got them all settled! Back to an empty house tonight which is weird after so many years of having at least one or two of them around!
Anyway .... not much time for stitching lately but I am sharing this photo of Sylvia's of a stitching lanyard which we will be working on at Needlework this week when we resume after our Christmas/New Year break. I have added a name tag to the bottom also! My camera is having a slight breakdown so haven't been able to take photos the past week or so.
I can't believe it is the end of January 2010 already! Doesn't time fly??

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!

Happy Australia Day everyone! We have had the most beautiful weather today on the south coast! We started Australia Day with a walk, then breakfasted with friends who were staying, then a couple of hours on the beach, then home to do some tidying up and work on some stitching projects! Doesn't get much better than that! It's great that we get to celebrate the diversity and beauty of our country on such a perfect weather day! Hope it was good for all Australians! This is our Aussie flag (taken from the Surfing Life magazine a couple of years ago) on the front of our house!

And this is a little project I have been working on this afternoon! All will be revealed shortly!

Inspiration for 2010!

We had a beautiful meal with our good friends Pete and Anne last night at the local vineyard! It was a Greek theme and the food and wine was superb! We sat out on the deck (shown in the previous posting) and there were about 26 guests for dinner! It was a balmy summer evening and just a superb way to end a busy week! So today I have been working on projects for this coming season of Needlework. As I looked back over the projects we completed in 2009 I think the ladies will have been happy with some of the things they have achieved! These are just some of them!

On my way to work each day ..........

On my way to work each day I drive past this lovely local vineyard. This morning as I drove past the sun was shining on the vines and it looked spectacular ... so I stopped and took a couple of photos!

The building is the wine tasting area and this evening we are fortunate to be going to a wonderful dinner hosted by the winery. We will sit on the balcony, enjoy wonderful food and wine, and I'll let you know all about it tomorrow! Enjoy your day!

Another Anniversary!

In a week of milestones this is a great one! It is 32 years ago today that I went on a blind date for lunch with this gorgeous man! We always remember this day (20th January 1978) because it was such fun and the start of something wonderful! On 20th March this year we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary - so this is definitely a blind date with a happy ending! Perhaps this is a good day for all of us to reflect on those whom we love, those who are special to us and those who shape our world and who we are. Be thankful for the blessings in your life!

My Year in Pictures!

When I look back over the past year, I realise how much my family, my friends, my faith and my stitching shape my life! Milestones like turning 50, having our son return safely from an overseas posting, our eldest daughter finishing her university degree, our eldest son purchasing his first property, and our youngest of four leaving home for university in Sydney this past weekend, are all captured on film and become treasured memories! I hope you enjoy your journey through life as much as I enjoy mine!

1 Year Blogging Anniversary

Having spent the weekend away in Sydney helping our eldest son move into his newly purchased apartment, and helping our youngest daughter (19) move in with him to start university shortly, I have only just realised it is one year today since I started my blog! What started as a hobby and a vehicle to keep in touch with my Needlework ladies, has become a fun way of keeping a journal of creativity, family milestones, and friendships!

Most of you will know that we live by the beach on the beautiful south coast of New South Wales so I thought I would share some photos of our beaches to celebrate this 1 year anniversary. After all, the seed was planted after a discussion on our beach with my good friend Sylvia!

As you can see, the rock pools and shells and sea life provide an endless source of wonder and beauty and not a day goes by that we don't walk around the beaches and headlands near us and are thankful for this pristine area in which live. Thank you all for sharing the last twelve months with me - long may the journey continue!

Art to Heart Shopping!

When I was collecting our Needlework Group's new Bernina Sewing Machine from Steph's the other day, I couldn't resist this great new publication from Art to Heart - "Sew Necessary". Nancy Halvorsen's fabrics and patterns are amongst my favourties, so it was great to find this lovely new book. So necessary that I have it on my bookshelf!!

It is full of lovely stitching projects like this lovely sewing basket which I could just be tempted to put together!

And lots of lovely scissor keepers which never go astray in my house (or sewing room). I'm definitely looking forward to playing with some ideas from this book.

Tavarua from the Water

As it is a rainy day here and I am trying to work through my sewing room, I decided I need to be back on this beautiful island I was on last week. My daughter bought an underwater camera on her way through customs and I borrowed it and took this picture whilst snorkelling! Isn't it a beautiful idyllic slice of heaven? OK ... so now back to the sewing room!

Bernina Sewing Machine & Lucky Ladies!!

Our Needlework Group was blessed to receive a grant to purchase a new sewing machine recently .... and I picked it up yesterday! What a fantastic Christmas gift for the whole group to use. It is a Bernina Activa 230 which we bought from our favourite local store Steph's! There are way too many buttons and things for me to comprehend, so I'm not even going to try at this stage, but Steph has offered to come and give us all a lesson on our return in February!

And these are the lucky Tuesday night ladies who will get to use this wonderful new machine!

And the Wednesday morning ladies too! Ladies, I hope you are all having a great holiday break from Needlework, and completing your "homework" and are looking forward to getting back together again in February! I'm looking forward to seeing you all! xx

Fiji

Just a couple more photos of Fiji to share - I absolutely love frangipani flowers and our bure was surrounded by beautiful frangipani trees! Just spectacular and the most beautiful fragrance!

On a walk around the island we came across this crab with the most intricate markings - not sure that my camera is equipped to pick up all the detail but this was as close as I could get and it was gorgeous!

And the view from the balcony of our bure! What can I say? Breathtaking! I'm thinking I might put this on my computer at work to savour the memories! After my first day back at work yesterday I need another holiday!!

And everywhere you look on Tavarua there is a beautiful scene! So now I must concentrate on some stitching projects for this year for our Needlework Group!!

Happy New Year in Fiji!

Happy New Year everyone! A little late I know, but I have decided this is the way every new year should start! We joined two of our children and their partners on a last minute holiday to the beautiful Fijian island of Tavarua! It was spectacular as you can see.

These beautiful little bures were dotted around the island - some with hammocks so we could just laze about and read - which we did a lot of!

Tavarua is renowned for a couple of the best surfing breaks in the world which is why the children and their partners were there - we enjoyed an afternoon out on the reef in a long boat watching them surf the famous "Cloudbreaks" surfing spot - just a 5 minute ride from Tavarua Island!

And the view from the restaurant over the top of the swimming pool and out to the "Restaurants" break was what we enjoyed every breakfast, lunch and dinner! Six days was not long enough though and we are looking forward to going back with the whole family maybe next year! Now I really must get into some stitching for 2010! I hope 2010 is a wonderful year for you all - my year has certainly been spectacular so far! Enjoy and smile!
