More Retreat Photos

Here are a few more photos from the fabulous Retreat I attended a couple of weekends ago! Called "Stitching at the Water's Edge", it was an absolutely beautiful way to spend a couple of days! Kim's mother and her friend stitched gifts for every one of the 66 ladies who attended - some received stitched needlecases (me) and some these lovely bags! This is one of Leanne Beasley's patterns! Isn't the fabric gorgeous?

This is a section of one of Leanne's quilts - just beautiful!

And some more of Leanne's embroidered pincushions scattered on the table!

And this gorgeous bag was made by one of the ladies at our table! She had lots of fun decorating - earings, ribbons and bows, tassels, glasses and jewels! Loved this bag! As you can see, I came home very inspired to do lots and lots of lovely things!

Felt Beehive Pincushion

Just back from a lovely weekend in Sydney catching up with the children for Father's Day which is not technically until next weekend here in Australia, but our family celebrated with three children in Sydney this weekend! We enjoyed a great breakfast by the beach yesterday morning and a fabulous Thai meal last night! It is, of course, all about the food!! We are looking forward to celebrating with Elliott next weekend! We also celebrated Nadia's (Sam's girlfriend) move to Sydney for her new job which she starts tomorrow! This cute little felt beehive pincushion is a project we will be working on at Needlework next week! Made from scraps of felt and with embroidered bees, it will be a cute companion for the ladies' sewing kits! Fun to make and a great design of Sylvia's which she has kindly shared!

This is the simply gorgeous needle case which I received last weekend at the Retreat in my bag of goodies! How lovely was it of Kim's mother to stitch one of these needle cases (or a small embroidered bag) for each one of the 66 ladies who attended? Very much appreciated!

And Shirley W has made a couple more of these great little wrist pincushions for last week at Needlework - so I bought one! And I'm really pleased to report I had a big walk both days in Sydney along the beach and around the headland and my knee is coping fairly well, so I'm pretty happy with that! Hope your weekend was much fun too!!

Stitched Sewing Companion

This is the Stitched Sewing Companion which I have finished off ready for next weeks Needlework group! I loved the aqua and brown tones in the fabric I had and stitched the different birds using some toning DMC threads. I've used this range of colours for a zippered bag I made recently and think they might just go hand in hand nicely!

Inside are lots of pockets for sewing bits and pieces!

This is my name tag and the bird which I purchased at the Retreat with the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research. The birds were beautiful and lots were made with Rosalie Quinlan's fabric range.

Our place cards had been beautifully made by someone very clever!! I kept mine because it is just so gorgeous!

Stitching at the Waters Edge Retreat

This is the glorious view down to the river at "Waterslea" Conference Centre where the "Stitching at the Waters Edge Retreat" was held this past weekend. It was so lovely to wake up each morning and look out at this magnificent view! No one ventured into the swimming pool though!

This wonderful group of trees shaded an area with little seats and rocks to sit on. Unfortunately my knee didn't really allow me to venture down the hill to check it out!

I really particularly enjoyed my session with Leanne Beasley on her techniques for making her fabulous quilts! She is such an inspiring person and gave so freely of her knowledge and time - it was a delight to spend time with her! (And now I'm so inspired to design a quilt using her techniques - so watch this space!)

And this is Rosie's Christmas version using red on white of the previous design which was white on red! Beautiful stitchery again using the lovely new Cosmo variegated threads! Very nice to stitch with!

By The Waters Edge Retreat

I have just returned from such a fabulous weekend stitching retreat "At the Waters Edge" run by the Jukejema Quilting Barn in Nowra. We had such a relaxing and stitching filled weekend which we enjoyed with 66 kindred spirits! We had the absolutely fantastic duo for tutors - Leanne Beasley and Rosalie Quinlan!! Below is one of Rosie's projects - a great little patchwork bag with lovely needlturn applique! A gorgeous matching needlecase is in the foreground, as are some bundles of Rosie's new fabrics which are to die for!

And another of Rosie's projects was this lovely Christmas stitchery on red linen which was particularly striking!

The owner of Jukejema, Kim, is a very talented lady and so is her mum who made all these lovely little table decorations which we all purchased for $10 each and the money raised will all go to Breast Cancer Research - a really special cause and a beautiful thought ladies!

Here are a couple of Rosie's designs made into little useful bags! Stitched using the beautiful Cosmo variegated threads, they are just divine. I stitched my project using these new Cosmo "Seasons" variegated threads and they are so lovely and smoothe to use - I had to buy a couple of different colourways! More photos to come!! Thankyou to everyone who has emailed and sent messages about my knee - recovery is a little slow and I am impatient, but it is getting better week by week! Thanks for your prayers!

Wednesday Stitching

Shirley W showed us these lovely little knitted items she had finished off over the last week. This little mauve purse holds a handmade soap and is decorated with a lovely flower. The flower brooch is really cute too. Can you see Shirley's blackwork in the background?

And she has also made this fabulous little wrist pincushion - knitted up to look like a watch! How handy is that? I'm off for a patchwork and stitching retreat weekend with 65 ladies a little way north of here! Leanne Beasley and Rosalie Quinlan are teaching and I'm going to really enjoy a relaxing weekend of stitching up whatever they have on offer!! Hope to show you some lovely photos when I return! Enjoy your weekend - whatever you may be doing!

Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!!

There are some clever quilting ladies in our Needlework Group and here are some of the lovely quilts which are in the process of being finished off at present! This is Jenny's bright and breezy and very colourful quilt! Absolutely fabulous colours!

And Dzintra has made this lovely little quilt and is learning to hand quilt which is always fun. This was a pattern by Gail Pan and the stitching and sentiments are beautiful!

And Sue has finally finished her quilt and had it professionally quilted by another of our members, Debbie! It is just so cute and I'm sure her very lucky granddaughter will be thrilled to bits with this gorgeous quilt!

A close up of Sue's quilt - her stitching is perfect and the quilt is a treasure!

Plant Trees Sampler and Cushion

These are the projects we are working on for the next two weeks at Needlework - so this one is for the Needlework ladies! This lovely project has been designed by Sylvia and she has kindly shared it with me to share with my Needlework ladies! The "Plant Trees" Sampler has been finished off with a beautiful painted wooden button and framed in a recycled timber frame! It looks great!

And the "cushion variety" has a stitched tree instead of a wooden button tree and has been made into a bright and cheery cushion! Needleturn applique method has been used for the cottage! So ladies .... which one will you be doing ??

Needlework finishes and Giveaway reminder

It was great to catch up with the Wednesday ladies and see what they have been doing for the past few weeks! Jenny has finished off this fabulously bright and colourful quilt top for a special relative! I'm going through a bit of a bright phase so this really appeals to me! She used a jelly roll and a couple of extra fat quarters to complete this quilt top!

And Helen had beautifully finished off this journal cover which we stitched a few weeks ago! Her stitching is great and the fabric around the outside really set it off well!

And the always creative Shirley F has been busy making lots of felt Christmas angels for lots of special people! Just a reminder to all my visiting angels that my giveaway finishes at 12 midnight tonight (Friday 13th) Australian time! I'll post news of the winner tomorrow!

Block H Gardener's Journal Completed!!

I'm happy to share that I have completed Block H of my "Gardener's Journal" quilt! This is the second block I have assembled this week so I'm fairly happy that I am now up to date with everyone else doing this project through the Stitch A Long group!

The stitching was fun, and a lot less than for the last block!

And I assembled this violet wreath section using foundation pieced method because it was so much easier! I took the photos tonight so the colours are probably not as good as they should be!

Block C Gardener's Journal Finished!

What a lovely weekend I have had! I ventured on a "big" walk down to the end of our street yesterday with David and when we got to our little beach there was a huge Southern Right Whale and her calf basking in the sun in the shallows! She was about 30 - 40 feet long (like a mini submarine) and her baby was so cute! We sat for about 2 hours and just watched her and her baby - it was beautiful! And it was so nice to be out walking again too!

And I have managed this afternoon to stitch together Block C of my Gardener's Journal quilt which I am stitching with the Stitch A Long ladies! The house above had sooooooo much stitching in it and I was glad when it was finished! The little dog house below was quick and easy compared to the house!

And thanks to Sylvia for her suggestion to foundation piece the wreath section - it was so much easier to do it that way! My stitching is almost complete for Block H so I am nearly back on track!

And this is the completed Block C! I'm pleased to have finished even though I am a month or so behind still! Not to worry - life is not deadlines at the moment!! I hope you have all had a fantastic weekend - here the weather has been sunny and beautiful, even if a little chilly in the early mornings! And thankyou to everyone who has entered my 100 followers giveaway so far - you are all amazing!

Flowers & Biscornu

Last night was my first night back at Needlework after my knee surgery and it was so lovely to get back and spend some stitching time with my ladies! They fussed and made me put my leg up and rest so I enjoyed stitching with them for a couple of hours which doesn't happen very often! And it was lovely to spend time with the Wednesday morning ladies today also. Shirley F bought me a beautiful camelia flower to brighten my day! Isn't it gorgeous?

And I have received another project for my "to do" list! I absolutely love to stitch biscornu and received this lovely Victoria Sampler pattern called "Beautiful Finishing 4 Sweetheart Roses"! This has patterns for 3 biscornu - a 15 sided one, a 6 sided one and a biscornu scissor fob! What to do first??? The scissor fob of course!!

This is the front of the pattern and I was so excited to receive it in the post today! I really should put it away and finish off some other things - but I'm itching to start stitching this lovely project which includes some hardanger and silk ribbon embroidery also!

Stitching Treasures Scissor Fob

This is a cute little scissor fob I completed yesterday from a pattern from "The Gift of Stitching" magazine called Stitching Treasures. There are a couple of items in this project - a little bag and a needlecase also. I thought I would start with the smallest project first! This has rolled silk ribbon around the outside and is attached to the little pink scissors with a gold chain!

This is the pattern from the magazine - I must at least make a start on the other projects!

I think the colours are lovely and really enjoyed stitching this little piece together! And I always need another scissor fob!!

The problem with "The Gift of Stitching" (which you can subscribe to and which comes to you online) is that it is full of lovely little cross stitch projects and I can't really choose which ones I want to do first! The online magazine arrives each month and I received another one yesterday - 1st August!!
