Sewing Kits

Our Needlework ladies are gathering together bits and pieces to make up some sewing kits for the ladies in Queensland who have lost everything in the recent flooding.    We have some lovely pieces donated and will this coming week make up gift bags and send them off!

We have some lovely bags and pincushions, canvas work pincushions and needlecases, and some really cute thimble pips!

Gorgeous felt needle books also!

And a variety of apple pincushions, fabrics, scissors, tape measures, pins, etc. etc.   We hope the ladies will be happy with their gifts!    And I want to thank my ladies for their very generous spirit of giving to those in need!

More Wednesday Stitching!

Jenni has finished off this bright and breezy "jellybean" quilt!  The colours are divine and the stitching is great Jenni!

One of the nicest things about our needlework group are the friendships which have been formed over the years.   Norma made some of the ladies at her table a lovely gift at Christmas time - a little padded scrap basket!

And in the basket was a little note!

Lots of the ladies have been making up sewing bags for us to send off to the flood victims in Queensland over the next couple of weeks.   Joyce has made this lovely bag and filled it with sewing bits and pieces - some lucky lady will be on the receiving end of this gorgeous gift!

Tricia's Quilt

Tricia showed us this beautiful quilt she has made for a very special little family member recently!  The colours are great and the stitcheries are absolutely beautiful!

Jenny's lovely quilting shows up in this photo of the centrepiece of the quilt - an adorable embroidered teddy bear!

And this is the whole quilt - you can't see all the beautiful embroideries very well, but they really are divine!    Gorgeous Tricia!

And Mary R has finished off this beautiful piece of cross stitch - the Sturt's Desert Rose - a native Australian flower.   Beautifully framed also Mary!    These are just two of my very talented Wednesday ladies!

Stitchery Satchel & Pincushion

I have finally stitched together this Stitchery Satchel which has had the stitchery done for a while!  Love the stitching but not the putting together!  However, I'm happy with the end result!

The idea is that this stitchery satchel holds your current work in progress  and it has a pincushion and scissors attached with a twisted cord!    And as I haven't quite finished off the Leanne Beasley project inside, I popped the pattern in there just to show how useful it will be!

Blog to Print Journal has arrived!

I have just received my printed journal of my second year of blogging!   I did one last year through Blog to Print .    I'm really excited to have the journal printed for the year 2010!   I chose one of my favourite canvas work pieces to put onto the front this time!

I opted for a soft cover book this time and the photos and print have come out beautifully!

It has been great looking back through the book which has become a journal of my life - both creative and family - for the past year!

And this miniature Christmas Bear has long been a favourite!    If you have a blog you should think about doing this too!   My family enjoy reading through the book (although I know some of them secretly follow my blog online too!)    Wherever you are ... I hope you are enjoying a relaxing Sunday!

Honeysuckle Manor

I have just received a gorgeous book I ordered a little while ago which has come to me all the way from the USA!   It is called "Honeysuckle Manor" and is a Blackbird Designs publication!   I have long admired the gorgeous pincushion I have seen on various blogs and so tried to source the book.

Thanks to my dear friend Faye -  Carolina Stitcher -  for suggesting I contact 1-2-3 Stitch in the USA!    It only took about 8 days to arrive from the States!

There are some really cute little tiny pincushions also!

And a lovely stitched "Honeysuckle Manor"!   Now .... where to begin with this one????

Colours of Sydney

Some fabulous colours around in Sydney last weekend when we were up there!   Can you believe Easter Eggs are out already???    This display in "David Jones" was gorgeous!

One of the delicious platters we enjoyed for lunch in the "David Jones"  Food Hall!  The beetroot dip was divine!

Early morning coffee in the Crown Street Grocer - Lynne (birthday girl), Shirley and Maree - looking in from outside the shop!   And because I love orange, the T2 display in orange boxes was a favourite! The coffee was pretty good too!

Paddington Markets

Just back from a fabulous weekend in Sydney celebrating  Lynne's 60th birthday!   We had some fantastic meals and lots of laughs!  We spent Saturday morning at the Paddington Markets which are always lots of fun!

I bought some beautiful hand dyed silk to knit a scarf for winter!      Ann Collins  who is a Textile Designer, has a stall at the Paddington Markets and dyes all her own silks and wools and the colours are just divine!

I plan to have one of these knitted up before this winter!!

Lots of gorgeous stalls under the beautiful trees and old buildings in Paddington - what a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning!!

Wednesday Needlework

Lots of the ladies have been bringing back in their Christmas homework and here are a couple more squares for our raffle quilt!   Don't they look great?  I'm sure this quilt will be beautiful!

These designs by Jenny of Elefantz really lend themselves to this lovely floral fabric and we have chosen the threads to match the colours in the fabric!   Hopefully we will have all the squares returned soon and will be able to put the quilt together quickly!

Jenny showed us too that she has finished off her canvas work piece from the week before!  The colours are gorgeous Jenny - shame the photo is a little bit blurred!

And the other Fiona in our group had a lovely little sachet holder which had been made for her by her daughter!    It is really divine and the stitching is superb!

Beautiful Blackwork

I am fortunate to stitch with some very clever ladies in my Needlework Group.    Shirley W is a fanatical blackworker!!    I bought this pattern quite a while ago and knew I wouldn't get it stitched in a hurry so I gave it to Shirley and she bought this yesterday to share with us all!  How fantastic does it look?

She has also stitched this fabulous sampler in blackwork!

And these cute little kittens!    Shirley's work is so beautiful and intricate (and she is one of our "older and wiser" members!!)

Tuesday Night Stitching!

It was lovely to be back at Needlework last night for the first time this year (after cancelling last week because of the heat!).   Most of the ladies have been very busy over the Christmas period, finishing off projects from last year and making some new ones too!    Chris has been very productive finishing off this Christmas Tree gift box, a pink ribbon cushion and a Christmas "Joy" decoration!

Chris also finally sewed together this felt needlecase which we made quite a while ago!  It looks great Chris!
And Paula has been busy developing some lovely new patterns, one of which is this great "Sit Me Up Donut" for new babies - and who better to test it out than Paula's gorgeous baby girl, Emma!   Great idea Paula - good luck with your new patterns!   Check out Paula's blog and patterns by clicking on the highlighted "Paula" above!

TUSAL and Tis the Season!!

It's time again to show my glass of threads - TUSAL - totally useless stitch a long - which is being run by It's Daffycat!   As you can see, I have been busy this past month!

And I have gathered together my fabrics to commence the 'Tis the Season Stitch A Long which Chookyblue will be co-ordinating!  Love all the reds and am excited about having another little quilt finished by Christmas!

Coffee Mug Warmer & Bag and Raffle Quilt!

Here is the coffee mug warmer and mug bag which I made to take my mug to Needlework in!  Inspired by a mug warmer from Nancy Halvorsen, I decided I needed a bag to hold it in!   And this is the end result!

It was so nice to be back at Needlework this morning !   Can you believe, we had to cancel last night's Needlework group because of the heat!   When I left work it was 45 degrees C in the town I work in and then when I got back to where we have Needlework, it was a cool and balmy 42 degrees.  So the Church Hall (without air conditioning) was a sauna and so for the first time in about 13 years, I cancelled our classes!     We did come home and sit in the water at the beach for about an hour though!

This morning some of the ladies bought back their Christmas homework which I gave out at the Christmas party in December.   We are making a raffle quilt using some of Jenny of Elefantz designs (with her blessing of course) and they all look so lovely!   **  Spare a thought and a prayer for Jenny in Queensland as they await with trepidation the arrival of Cyclone Yasi this afternoon.   **

We have changed the designs a little and some are stitched and some have applique - but I'm sure they will all look beautiful when finished and sewn together!   Thanks ladies for doing your homework so beautifully!
