Wednesday Stitching

It was back to Needlework this morning after our School Holiday/Easter break (2 weeks) - and I can honestly say I miss getting together with the ladies for stitching ... and chatting .... and morning tea .... and the friendships!    Some of the ladies have been busy over the holiday period and here are a few of their creations!    Stella has created this gorgeous cat (for all you cat lovers) with some lovely fabric purchased in the USA on a trip a while back!   Love the striped pants underneath (unfortunately they didn't show up in the photo!!)

And Inge has been busy creating cushions - this one was from a class we did a while ago and she has added her personal touch of her own special buttons!

And Inge is also getting organised for Christmas already with this cute log cabin cushion using all her Christmas fabrics!

Garden Bag and Trapunto

Here is the "Garden Bag" which I have made for classes this week!  A great way to use up scraps (mine were Nancy Halvorsen "scraps") and offcuts of fabric!   I have used up some of my huge collection of buttons too on this project!

A top view of the "garden bag" with one of the proteas in my garden!!

And in a few weeks we will be working some Trapunto embroidery - this is one of the samples!  I hope everyone has enjoyed their Easter break - back to work tomorrow!!!

ANZAC Day 2011 is upon us and today we celebrate our amazing service men and women and their commitment and dedication.    It is a great day for all Australians - a day we remember all  who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have great meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. On ANZAC day, ceremonies are held in towns and cities across the nation to acknowledge the service of our veterans.   For our family, it is a day of pride and honour - David and his father, who served in World War II, will march in Sydney and our son who has served overseas will march with his battalion where he lives.    We are very proud of all of you and honour your amazing commitment, strength of character and service to your country.

Hexagon Quilt

Happy Easter!   Look what found its way into my little collection of fabrics this morning!!  Now ... if I am going to eat chocolate there is no doubt Lindt chocolate is pretty much the ultimate for me!

And this box of Nancy Halvorsen fabrics are getting ready to be made into The Hexagon Quilt from the Vignette magazine!

I have the hexagons and template ready for cutting and this lovely selection of fabrics and came across the Vignette Hexagon Quilt blog which will no doubt inspire me to continue along with the others albeit a little slowly with everything else I have on!

The Vignette Hexagon Quilt blog is being organised by Sarah and Leanne - if you feel so inclined - check it out and start making your hexagons!!     Enjoy a peaceful and relaxing Easter Sunday afternoon!   Here the rain is pouring down and filling the tanks - perfect weather for stitching!!

More Hatched and Patched

Here are some more photos of our trip to Hatched and Patched!  The beautiful old stables form part of Anni's shop building and house the mail order part of the business - aren't they magnificent?

Inside "The Home Patch" there was so much to see and take in!  We had to go back the next morning so we could look at all the things we had missed the day before!

We were also fortunate to see some of Margaret Sampson's quilts on Thursday morning as she was giving a class at the shop!    It was comforting to see that she had also started quilts 20 years ago and was still working on them!!   There is hope for us all!!

Outside the back door, the trees were all turning beautiful autumn colours and this lovely rustic bird house was in the garden!     The sky was blue, the trees were green, and we were two very happy customers who reluctantly had to leave to drive all the way back home!   Thanks Anni - we had a ball!!

Hatched and Patched

Sylvia and I have had a little excursion to "The Home Patch" - the home of Anni Downs creations at Hatched and Patched!   What a beautiful little piece of the world!!   If you are in the vicinity of Bathurst, New South Wales, you really should visit - it is absolutely exquisite!   As you can see, I was very happy to have found "The Home Patch"!!   Housed in a rustic old brick home and stables in Bathurst, it is just a wonderful wonderful treasure to behold!

And even more fantastic was ..... Anni was home!!!!     And so very gracious with her time and advice and hints on needle turn applique (and everything else).   And as Sylvia and I have joined up for the "In My Garden" block of the month quilt, it was lovely to have our photo taken with Anni in front of her beautifully finished quilt!   How exciting was that???

I loved this gorgeous huge pincushion when it was in a magazine a while ago - to see it in "real life" was great!   It stands about 14" high and is beautifully decorated!   Just wandering through "The Home Patch" was an absolute delight!   Every nook and cranny held something exciting!

And such beautiful baskets and tins of the most beautiful fabrics - I wanted them all!!!   Wisely... I didn't purchase them all ... but had fun looking at them all and dreaming about what I could make with them all!!     Lots more photos to come, but I must get ready as some of the children will be arriving home tonight for Easter so I must look like I have done something before they arrive!   Enjoy your Easter break with family and friends ... and don't forget .... it's not about the Easter Eggs!!

Stitching Day Organisation

Not a lot of stitching that I can really share with you as I am in organisation mode for our upcoming Stitching on the Lake Days in Canberra.   I have been busy making kits and name tags and getting organised to share a couple of wonderful days with all the stitching ladies!    However .... I was excited this week to receive my second block in the Anni Downs block of the month called "In my Garden" from Hatched and Patched!

I have now finished this canvas work project for the stitching days but thought I would tease you all with a tiny glimpse of the colours I have used!   I love the creativity of canvas work and can't wait to share this project with the ladies!

And we always try to make our stitching day bags a little different so I have had lots of fun with bright colours for our name tags this time!  Is your name tag here???    Sylvia has been busy too - hop on over to her blog to see what she has been busy creating for the stitching days!   Only a couple of weeks to go now - 27 sleeps actually until the the first stitching day!!

Sunny Saturday!!

What a beautiful sunny day we had yesterday on the south coast!   The weather was warm and the ocean dip was amazing!   We decided a trek around the headlands and up the coast to a secluded spot should be on the agenda .... so that's what we did!    We shared a secluded lunchtime picnic with these seagulls!

It was such a glorious day to be out and about and trekking up and over headlands and around the rocks!  Isn't the ocean a spectacular colour?

In the distance you can see one of our local treks "Pigeon House Mountain" in the background!

And resting on the old gantry on the way back home and watching the huge stingrays fishing below us was an awesome finish to a fantastic day!     Not a stitch done!!

TUSAL update

Here is my TUSAL (totally useless stitch a long) update for this month!  My wine glass is overflowing mostly with red threads from my "Tis the Season" stitch a long!

One of the blocks from my "Tis the Season" stitch a long!  The others just need to have borders sewn around them!!

Shirley has been away for a few weeks and while she was away she has created these cute little owl bags for her two lucky daughters!!

And this photo is for Shirley's daughters - here is your mum with her lovely bags!

A Lovely Surprise from Sue!

I arrived home this afternoon to find a very special surprise in the mail from Sue in Canberra!   A while ago I had given her some of my patterns to play with and she very very kindly made me this gorgeous decoration to say thankyou!!  What a lovely surprise to come home to on such a wet and rainy day here!    So .... in between the rain drops, I snuck outside to photograph it!    Thanks so much Sue - I love it!!

And this beautiful card was with it - I think it is a photo of one of Sue's projects and she has written a lovely message around the outside of the block .... very creative and special!     So thanks Sue ... your random act of kindness has made my day!

Bits and Pieces

Still having a bit of difficulty in posting photos but thought I would try again - let's see how we go this time!  This was a gorgeous knitted shawl which Pauline has completed and bought in to Needlework to show us recently.  It is so fine it can be pulled through a wedding ring - absolutely beautiful!

And Audrey has now finished off her lovely teddy bear quilt which is just divine!

And Jenny kindly gave me this very bright and colourful bag which matches the lovely quilt I was given by all the ladies when Needlework finished last year!  I love it - thankyou Jenny!
And Jenny showed us this simple yet very effective quilt she has just completed!   Lots of lovely ideas and all beautifully made!   Well done ladies!
