21st Birthday Celebrations!!

We have just had a fantastic family weekend in Sydney celebrating our baby girls 21st birthday!   Her brother flew in from Western Australia for a great surprise for everyone!     We had the most divine meal at Jonah's at Whale Beach which was just to die for!

The girls enjoyed Strawberry Dacquiris!   The birthday girl is on the right!

Dinner was exceptional!

A beautiful fruit flan for a birthday cake on Saturday afternoon with all the family!

A bit fuzzy - but pre dinner drinks at the restaurant!  David, Fiona, Tim (Ash's boyfriend), Ash, Chelsea, Elliott and Sam!

Chelsea at the movies on Sunday afternoon!    Can't believe my baby is 21!!

Such a cold and rainy day on Sunday that after a beautiful brunch we ended up at the movies!

Needlework Ladies

Here are some lovely finished projects and some "works in progress" which I have photographed in the past few weeks!  These colourful journal covers were bought along to the first Stitching on the Lake Day - they were projects from one of our previous stitching days!   Beautifully finished ladies!

This journal or folder cover was personalised with "Stitching by the Lake" at the top!   What a great idea!

Another pastel version of the "Chelsea Bloom" quilt was recently won by one of my Needlework ladies at an auction for the Night Owl Quilters Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for cancer research!

Shirley W has been busy doing her favourite thing lately - Blackwork!!   This bag looks great Shirley!

And another Shirley - has been busy making bags - here are two of her latest creations (and she says "hi" to her beautiful daughters who like to check in to my blog every so often to see their mum!!)  How gorgeous are the leaves on the tree behind - taken this morning on a chilly winter morning!

Jenny has made this very cute number quilt for a new arrival!

And she has quilted the cutest little elephants around the border!

And Julie's friend has made her a useful gift - a name tag for "stuff"!!   This would look great hanging on a sewing basket Julie!!

And another couple of creative Needlework ladies are making a Sashiko quilt in a class up the coast.  This is Frances' first block - looks fabulous Frances!

"The World As It Should Be"

"The World As It Should Be" is a beautiful book by Anni Downs  and fortunately Hobbysew had lots of samples on display on Saturday at "Stitching on the Lake" so we could all drool over them!  Sylvia  had stitched all the samples for the shop and they were absolutely beautiful!    This cushion is one of my favourites!

I love the quilt - I might just have to add that to my list of things to do!!

Sylvia had her quilt professionally quilted in Canberra and it looks fantastic!

Being a bit of a bag lady, I'm quite partial to the bag also!

And this cute little purse looks like something quick and easy to make!

The punch needle version may take a little longer to stitch though!    Such lovely samples from a gorgeous book!   Beautiful stitching Sylvia!

Stitching on the Lake Day 2

We had another fabulous Stitching on the Lake day in Canberra yesterday!   Lots of lovely ladies stitching and chatting and eating ... doesn't really get much better than that!!   The sun shone through the windows early in the morning before everyone arrived and the room looked great!

Hobbysew Belconnen again bought a gorgeous stall full of fun bits and pieces that we just "had" to have!   Have a look at Sylvia's blog because I'm sure she will have some photos of the day there too!

The caterers did a wonderful job again - the food was delicious and the table looked magnificent!

The laughing caterers hid in the kitchen cupboard at some point in time during the day (just to take a break!)  Seriously ladies ... you excelled yourself and the food was beautiful!

It is always lovely to see all the ladies' sewing companions and scissor keepers etc etc.   I found this lovely one on my travels between the tables on the day!

I'm not sure Jo knows I'm an "orange" person, but I really liked this scissor fob that she had made and it was attached to some really striking "Eiffel Tower" scissors!   Divine!

Karen (centre) sent through a couple of her photos to me so I thought I would share them too!  Here are three good friends - Alyson, Karen and Martha - stitching away happily!

Some of the ladies hard at work (and chatter)!!

More industrious activity!!

Alyson and her daughter "shopping" with Cathy's help!

And even more activity and chatter happening!  We had a lovely day again!   Bit tired today as I am unpacking and putting away!   Thankfully I made it back from Canberra in one piece and didn't manage to find a stray kangaroo on the road like I did last week!!   My car is still recovering at the smash repairers!    All the ladies are very excited about the prospect of a "Winter Stitching Retreat" in 2012, so we will get our thinking caps on about that one and let you know some details soon!!    Enjoy the coming week ... I hope you manage to find some stitching time!!

Ort Report and New Books!!

Oh dear!  I'm so behind in my Ort Report for this month!  I have been busily stitching - my wineglass runneth over with orts!!!

A gorgeous birthday gift from my sisters to me were a couple of lovely new books!  My choice!!  "Quilting from little Things" by Sarah Fielke took my fancy and I just love the bright and colourful quilts!

And the new little Bareroots book - Favorite Embroidery Stitches has some cute little projects and stitcheries!

And the colourful quilts in Sarah Fielke's book just take my fancy every time I look at them!   Must now get back to packing up the car for the Stitching on the Lake day in Canberra on Saturday.  This will be the second of our two days and we are really looking forward to another wonderful day of stitching and eating ... and stitching .... and eating!!   Hope you enjoy your weekend - wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing!

Needlework Ladies and Projects

Some lovely projects on display this week at Needlework - here are some of them!!   Lesley's daughter, Paula, gave her this bright Sudoku quilt kit for Mothers Day and Lesley has put it together beautifully!   Great fabrics!

Beth has finished off her stitching pocket and sewing carry all which we made a little while ago!

Lucky Yvonne (who won our raffle quilt at Christmas time) was fortunate to score this amazing quilt at the recent "Biggest Morning Tea" fundraiser put on by the Night Owl Quilters!    Made by the very talented Oriel - this is just divine!

Dzintra was back at Needlework after injuring her shoulder a while ago - here is her stitching from one of our previous "Stitching on the Bay" days and her gorgeous Lynette Anderson needlecase!

And Tricia has stitched "Gracious Moments" which was a gift for her recent birthday!   Very creative and productive ladies!

And next weeks project is this trapunto embroidery!

Stitching on the Lake and Birthday Flowers!

I was very blessed in the flower department for my birthday last Friday - these beautiful flowers were sent from my children - thankyou so much Sam, Ash, Elliott and Chelsea! xxxx

These gorgeous flowers came from the girls I used to work with!  Thanks girls!  I miss you too!!

Playing with the close-up button on the camera - how exquisite is this?

Not only did Maree and Lynne cater for the Stitching on the Lake Day, but Maree bought these beautiful tulips which were very very tight buds on Saturday, but are now starting to open up!  Thanks Maree!

And she must think I need cooking lessons!!!!   So I have been browsing the pages of Jamie Oliver's "30 Minute Meals" - where to start??   Delicious Maree - thankyou!

The back cover is just amazing!

Sylvia made me this beautiful Anni Downs booklet cover - "Life is Champagne and Roses" - how true!!  Thankyou Sylvia!

Unfortunately I had an accident on the way home from Canberra early on Saturday evening - a kangaroo jumped out of the dark and straight into my car!   My car unfortunately came off second best and is now at the smash repairs being fixed!   I'm fine though!

And some of the girls hard at work and concentrating at "Stitching on the Lake" on Saturday!

Did I mention the absolutely delicious lemon butterfly cakes?

And the Raspberry and White Chocolate slice?

Our only male present on the day was the very beautiful Patrick - at only 5 weeks of age!

And a bit more of the Hobbysew display - with the very popular "Vignette" magazines in the foreground!    What a great day we had - and the best thing is we get to do it all again this Saturday! Looking forward to seeing all the ladies on Saturday!
