Just Testing!!

I'm having a little bit of "blogger" trouble!!  I have posted yesterday morning and yesterday evening and seem to be having some difficulty with my photos!  So this is a test!    Let's see how we go!!    I received this gorgeous little Blackbird Designs pattern recently and am planning on making a start soon!

And I'm loving using my sewing pouch which was made for me by Sylvia a few years back for my birthday!    It is inspirational just to pull my current project out of this little pouch and every time I do I am reminded of a special stitching friend who has a very significant birthday coming up next week!

Hopefully these photos will work out!  I have uploaded them to Web Albums and inserted from there in the hope that this may work!   I usually just upload from Picassa and then click on "blog this" - for some reason it doesn't seem to be working at the moment!   These technological mysteries are sent to try us!!   Have a happy day!!

Sewing Sunday Bliss!

I am devoting my lazy Sunday afternoon to being not too lazy and finishing off some bits and pieces that simply need putting together!   This is a "needle tweeter" which I have adapted from a Just Nan pattern I have had for a while!    It is a cute little needle holder!

I have used variegated DMC perle cottons in shades of blue and yellow to complete this project on 14# aida in pale blue.   I loved that my bright yellow grevillea flowers are out which make a great backdrop for these photos!    When you open the "tweeter" up, you can see the needle storage inside!  Great fun to make and quick and easy!   A great gift for a stitching friend!

And I was excited to receive two parcels in the post this week - the first from Busy Fingers is two packs of 1" hexagons so that one day (in the not too distant future) I can make a start on the gorgeous hexagon quilt in the Leanne Beasley magazine - "Vignette" Issue 2!

And it is always lovely to receive a package from Hatched and Patched, Anni Downs shop in Bathurst, New South Wales.  I loved the "Sewing Angel Toolstore" when I saw it recently so I ordered the kit because I loved Anni's colours which she had used!    I think I'm going to be a busy girl!!    And thankyou to those who have sent emails and wished me luck in my first week at my new job - I love it! The staff are lovely to work with and the bonus is that I am in my very familiar field of work and that I only travel 15 minutes to get there!     Now I just need to negotiate another day off for "stitching time"!!!     Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

Needlework Ladies

Beverley bought this beautiful book called "Stitch" by Cath Kidston to Needlework on Wednesday.  It has some lovely designs in it, particularly for canvas work or tapestry work.

Beverley has stitched this gorgeous little pincushion already!   It looks just like the picture!

And Francis has almost finished this bright and breezy glasses case from the same book!   They look great ladies!

And although this is a bit of a fuzzy photo, Pauline bought along her beautiful stumpwork rose to show - the detail is fantastic - beautiful work!    It also has the cutest ladybeetle embroidered on one of the petals!

Flowers and Fabric Sculpture!

A close up of some of the beautiful flowers in an arrangement sent to my by my gorgeous husband this week to wish me luck in my new job and to wish me a happy 31st wedding anniversary!   The colours are spectacular!

The whole box of flowers with lots of the buds now coming out and displaying the most brilliant colours!   I'm definitely one lucky girl!

Jenny bought this beautiful African fabric sculpture to Needlework today.  She has spent a lovely day in a class with Merilyn creating this amazing piece!

Apparently these sculptures can be for inside and outside which is a great idea!   Merilyn can be found at www.sculpturebymerilyn.com.au if you are interested in looking further!

Different Coloured Bags!!

Lots of the Needlework ladies have finished off their sewing bags from a few weeks ago!   All in different colours and looking fantastic with their pincushions and scissors attached!   I'm pretty sure these belong to Tricia, Lois, Shirley and ???

Shirley made hers a little different with cross stitch and some cute buttons in the stitchery panel!

And the lovely daisy button on this one looks great!

Billums in the Solomons

Some more photos of the Solomons trip - here are David and I leaving the church in the valley where we are planning to build the kindergarten later this year!   Our dear friend Patrick is in the blue shirt holding his young son Adrick.

In Honiara the colourful "billums" are hanging from the trees - all made by local women and very useful - David bought me one home from Papua New Guinea a few years ago, and he wanted one for himself!

And so as the ladies were sitting stitching underneath the trees, he made his choice!

This "masculine" black and white billum was stitched by this lovely lady and she enjoyed having her photo taken with the purchaser himself!    This was the closest I got to "stitching" in the past week!    And today is our 31st wedding anniversary and we have celebrated with church (and sharing our stories of the Solomons trip), lunch with some good friends and a lovely evening meal!      This week brings new horizons as I start my new job tomorrow - wish me luck!!

Back from the Solomon Islands

Just back from 6 days in the Solomons trying to organise the building of the kindergarten!   How beautiful are the children?   This older girl is named Fiona!!   She was so excited to have her photo taken!

And here I am being greeted by some of the children in the valley on our arrival !   So very special to be back with them again!

David singing songs in the church with the children!

And this most beautiful deep pink frangipani flower was out everywhere we went!   So gorgeous!   No stitching done at all this past week but so many precious moments which I hope to share over the next couple of days!    Now I just need to unpack everything and wash!!

Embroidered Garland and Vignette

Next weeks project for the Needlework ladies is this embroidered garland of flowers - I have used up lots of buttons on a pin box to match!

And I was very excited to receive my second issue of "Vignette" a couple of days ago!  I have browsed through the pages - again and again!   It really is a beautiful magazine!

Leanne's photos are amazing - I love the hexagon quilt and fresh raspberries are my absolute favourite of all time!!

TUSAL and IN MY GARDEN

I was very excited to receive my first months kit for Anni Downs (Hatched and Patched) new quilt "In My Garden" - I'm loving all the fabrics and colours and can hardly wait to start on it!   Must finish off one other thing before I do!

This Leanne Beasley stitchery has been waiting for a while to be put together - hopefully that will get done today!

And it is that time of the month to post my TUSAL wine glass, which will have to become a bigger jar by next month I hope!    With all the odd bits of stitching I have been doing lately, there is such a variety of colour in this wine glass!   It's great to see how much others have been doing - their jars are huge!!

Girls Weekend Away !!

We have just had a lovely girls weekend away to celebrate Sylvia's 60th birthday!  We rented a house up the coast a little way with a lovely view over the ocean!    We had visitors join us for breakfast yesterday morning on the balcony!     Beautifully colourful and very friendly!

We enjoyed a scrumptious lunch at Bannisters - overlooking the ocean - exceptional food and the company was great - we have all been friends for many many years!

And Sylvia the birthday girl with one of the dessert platters we shared - complete with birthday candle!

The other dessert platter - absolutely to die for!    We had a lovely weekend - a little bit of shopping, some fabulous food and wines, delicious cheeses and olives, a bit of stitching and lots of chatting and catching up!    Hopefully Sylvia will share her lovely birthday gift on her blog!

Christmas and Vignette Giveaway!

I know it's not Christmas for a long time - but my Christmases all came at once yesterday when I finally retired (temporarily)!!   30 years in the one job (with a couple of years break for the children) has been an amazing experience!   I'm looking forward to more stitching time and taking time to smell the roses - however I have another part time job already only 15 minutes from home (I currently travel 1 hour each way!!) which is fantastic!   I start in a couple of weeks!      So.... with that in mind .... I finished off this Christmas decoration for the Christmas Ornament A Month Challenge!   It was one I had done a while ago and gave away and I wanted one for me - so here it is!!

I had a great day in Bodalla on Monday stitching with the Bodalla Embroiderers!   Here is the project and kit which we did on the day!    Fabulous ladies and a most enjoyable day!

And on the weekend, I stitched together my first block for the Vignette in Stitches quilt!  Just have to hurry up and do the embroidery as Issue 2 is about to come out with the next two blocks in it!   On the subject of Vignette, the Vignette in Stitches blog is having a fantastic giveaway of some beautiful fabrics!   Have a look and enter if you wish!
