My Patch at Milton

I'm fairly blessed to live in such a beautiful place and even more blessed to have beautiful shops close at hand ..... this one is "My Patch" at Milton.    I had to duck up there the other day and this is what greeted me ........ the hallway as you walk through the front door!

Lots of lovely little displays everywhere!

Cute coats to be made and lovely bright fabrics!

This room is filled with beautiful things!

The lovely sunroom at the rear of the cottage where Val's display of Husqvarna sewing machines for sale  is set up!

A bookshelf full of lovely books and bits and pieces!

Gorgeous lampshades and cushions .... beautiful classes!

And ranges of bright and cheery fabrics that will make you leave with a smile on your face (and less money in your wallet ..... I speak from experience here!!)

Lovely little quilt stands with equally gorgeous quilts hanging over them out on the front verandah .... these greet you as you arrive and immediately you think ..... I'm going to love this shop!

All housed in a quaint little old cottage in Milton, South Coast, New South Wales ... there is even a patchwork prayer flag out the front .... love it!

Val does an amazing mail order business as well and as I was talking with her yesterday she was madly packing up lots of bits and pieces to send away!  So .... if you can't physically visit in person, why not check out her website .... you will be truly amazed   http://www.mypatchfabrics.com.au/

Fernhill Block 3 Arrived!

It's always so lovely to receive nice things in the mail and yesterday was no exception!  My Block 3 of Lynette Anderson's "Fernhill" quilt arrived .... I'm enjoying stitching this little project!

The little handpainted button on each of these designs is simply gorgeous!

It was freezing here last night and this is the quilt I had over me as I stitched on the lounge (that was after I did the ironing!!)   When I folded it up this morning I looked at the label on the back and was quite surprised to see that this "Square in the Country" quilt was stitched by me in 2004!!   I love the colours and enjoyed stitching this sampler quilt using all different designs from different patterns!

Weekend in Sydney

We are back from a lovely weekend in Sydney celebrating our youngest daughter's birthday .... and yes .... she loved her quilt!!   Here is our beautiful Chelsea enjoying a birthday desert with sparkler on the weekend!!

On Saturday we did the 9km walk from the Spit Bridge at Mosman to Manly.   It was really windy and very cool, but a spectacular walk!   This is at the start looking down Middle Harbour!

Further around the corner and we overlooked Balmoral Beach and the city skyline in the distance, including the tip of the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Rounding the point we could see the Manly Ferry heading into dock at Manly!

Sitting enjoying our morning tea muesli bar and looking out to Sydney Heads .... absolutely spectacular .... Nadia, me, Chelsea and Ashleigh.

Out of the wind now and looking from Reef Beach across to Manly .... me, Chelsea, Ashleigh and David.

Delicious lunch of Yamba prawns and salad in Manly .... mmmmmm ...... after a two and half hour walk, we deserved a yummy lunch!

On Sunday morning we headed up to Palm Beach and climbed up to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse ... again such spectacular views back over Palm Beach on the left and Pittwater on the right!

David and I at the Barrenjoey Lighthouse!

Sam and Nadia decided they needed to get a bit of exercise too as they are heading off to Croatia and the Greek Islands for a month this week (very jealous about that!!)

David, me, Chelsea, Tim, Ashleigh and Sam at Barrenjoey Lighthouse!

The newly engaged couple .... Ashleigh and Tim!     As you can see .... not a relaxing weekend .... but we all enjoy the outdoors and it was such a spectacular weekend!  Happy Birthday Chelsea!!!

Birthday presents for Chelsea!!

Now I wonder what could possibly be in this big gift !!!   I thought the paper was too bright a cheery not to post a photo of!!

Now I'm hoping Chelsea doesn't decide to check on my blog before the weekend or she will see her finished birthday gift!!!   All bound and with the label on !!

I called this quilt "I love Bali" .... simply because she does (and so do I) ....perhaps we might need another holiday to remind ourselves why we love it so much!!   I used some of the batik fabrics around the label on the back as well!

I hung this over the balcony this morning and the sun caught the quilting and although there is sun and shade in this photo .... it shows how beautiful Jenny's quilting is!   I'm hoping the birthday girl will love it too!!    Have a lovely weekend wherever you are .... we'll be enjoying the company of three out of four children this weekend (and counting down the next month until the other one returns from an overseas posting .... not long to go now!!)

Chelsea's Quilt

The baby of our family turns 22 next week and I have made her this special quilt using balinese batik fabrics (because she loves Bali for holidays!!)

Jenny G from my Needlework group quilted it with her new machine and she has done a beautiful job!   What  a lovely surprise this morning when she bought it in to me and showed me her wonderful quilting ..... I love it!!    And hopefully Chelsea will too!!

This is the back which probably give a better idea of the quilting!   Tonights job is now sewing the binding on and handstitching on a label !!

Lyn came in this morning with her finished blackwork piece .... just needed instruction into turning it into a biscornu!   Beautiful work Lyn!

Some lovely variations of Jennifer's bag on display this morning .... Shirley F has added little felt hearts to her bag!

And Sheila was busy stitching a myriad of embroidery stitches onto her felt circles!

Sandy is a bit of a paper piecing fanatic (like me) and she is making a beautiful quilt .... here is one portion of the quilt!

And Shirley F has been in the Christmas mood creating an elf and reindeers!   Very cute!   Such diversity in this group of lovely women who come together each week to share their love of anything to do with stitching!    Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings are such fun times!

Sunday in Canberra

I had a lovely day in Canberra yesterday with a couple of friends as we wandered through the Old Bus Depot Markets at Kingston.    We went up to have a look at the "Celebration of Wool" display on there!   Although chilly, it was lovely to spend a couple of hours wandering, and then catching up with Sylvia for a quick lunch!    Lots of gorgeous wools and felt on display!

A group of ladies were weaving ....

Very cute tea cosies!!

I bought some lovely wool to maybe stitch up a tea cosy as well!

A bought a gorgeous kit for a traditional Japanese drawstring pouch !

These are the fabrics included in the kit !   A thoroughly enjoyable day!!  I hope you all had a great weekend too!    Ho hum .... Monday morning and back to work now!!

Primitive Quilts & Birthday Flowers

I was very happy to receive this lovely magazine called "Primitive Quilts" in the mail this week - it is full of gorgeous primitive bits and pieces!   I really love the farmers market bag!

A gorgeous little needlecase!

A flower pocket!

The magazine cover is just lovely!

And a pleasant surprise inside is a little quilt designed by an Australian designer - Gail Pan!  Just lovely to browse through the pages of this gorgeous magazine today in the sunshine on my verandah with a cup of coffee!!

This radiant bunch of flowers was a gift from my boss together with a very pleasant lunch at a local winery with all the staff this week .... will this birthday never end??

I must also get out into the sunshine and plant out this beautiful yellow hibiscus which was a birthday gift also!    It is the most beautiful sunny day here .... absolutely glorious!!
