English Thatched Cottage Canvas Work

My love of canvas work was tested a little with this tiny English Thatched Cottage canvas work project I recently finished!   Although it was a bit fiddly to put together, it will make a great little scissor fob!    This is the front with little flowers growing along the front ....  the finished size is about 1.5 inches wide x 1 inch high!!

And this is the back .... and it is sitting on my first orchid which I discovered had bloomed over the weekend!   This little cottage is a design by Sue Hawkins from England.  A fun little stitch!!

Gorgeous "Sewing Angel Tool Store"

This is another of the beautiful pieces I saw at Urban Stitches last weekend ..... this very gorgeous version of Anni Downs "Sewing Angel Tool Store" ...

I think I love this so much because this little sewing angel has an orange dress on!!!   And I'm a bit of an orange girl!!   The inside flap has beautiful stitchery ....

The pockets inside hold all manner of little sewing bits and pieces .... scissors, needles, pins, thread ...

And it was beautifully made by this lovely mum, Carmel, for her gorgeous daughter, Olivia ... how lucky is she??   We were fortunate to share at table with these two lovely ladies at Urban Stitches!

And apart from a little stitchery on the inside panel, this is where I'm up to with my Angel Tool Store ... so I must get a bit of a hurry on and finish her off!!

We have had our daughter Ash and her Tim down this weekend with some of their friends, so a bit of wedding organisation has been accomplished in between a little bit of stitching, a few sunny beach walks, and a lot of chatting and eating !!  Good times !!  I hope your weekend has been enjoyable too!!

I AM STITCHING .... RED HOME

At the Craft Fair in Sydney recently I purchased Natalie Bird's new book "Red Home" ... filled with all things red which I love!!   After finishing "My Favourite Things" quilt  by Anni Downs earlier this week, I decided to get onto another quilt project while I'm on a roll .... so "Red Home" was the choice!   I'm joining May Britt and Hanne  in Norway as we "internationally" stitch "Red Home" together!!  This will be fun ....

This is the applique section of the first block "heart flower basket" and I have chosen to blanket stitch rather than needleturn because I find it far more relaxing ....

My completed first block !!   I loved choosing all the different red fabrics for this quilt!

And in case you decide to stitch this gorgeous quilt also .... Natalie has kindly made up this little button for you to put onto your sidebar ... so everyone can see you are stitching "Red Home"!!

Urban Stitches Show and Tell

There was lots of lovely and inspirational show and tell at Urban Stitches ... perhaps my favourite was this gorgeous variation of Leanne's "Sew Laugh Love" design .... the colours were just my cup of tea ....

Here is Leanne's original design .... also very beautiful !!

This was magnificent ... words cannot describe ....

And the same lady has made many thousands of tiny hexagons to put into this beautiful quilt .... absolutely amazing !!

How many hexagons?

Lovely colours in this little quilt !

Inspirational to see Leanne's hexagon quilt from the "Vignette" magazine hanging on display ...

And this version of the "Australian Christmas" quilt was very jolly!

And this gorgeous version of Leanne's garden quilt just reminds me why I love her designs so much !!     As if I need reminding!!

Such beautiful pieces and very talented ladies - thankyou all for sharing your finished (and not quite finished) projects with us all !

And this is the back ....

Chris finished off her biscornu in a gorgeous variegated DMC thread ....

Beth has finished knitting this purse from last term ....

And Shirley F is getting in the mood for Christmas with this lovely hanging ...

And another cute hanging ....

And here is Shirley with her completed Penny Bag from last term .... very productive Shirley (and hello to her daughters who will be looking at this photo!!)

Dzintra has finished off a couple of shoe bags from Anni Downs pattern ...

And Osla does the most amazing crochet and has made this rug ... great colours ... it looks fantastic!

I had to choose a square to take a close up photo ... so naturally I chose the orange square!!  Well done Osla ... and all the ladies for always stepping outside the square and trying something different!

"My Favourite Things" Quilt Top Finished!!

After spending the weekend in Melbourne, I came home inspired to finish off my quilt before starting something new!!   I like having a few things on the go at any one time ... just for variety!!   So I sat down on Sunday afternoon and put my last row on and the borders, but had to wait until this afternoon to take a photo in good light!   I changed the wooden chair block to "baskets of flowers" ...

I love birdsong in the morning (as long as it's not too early) !!

Ready to attach the last row to the quilt ....

On the way outside to take a photo, I threw it on a queen size bed to make sure it fits .... and it does ...

And hung it on the fence to try and take a good photo .. this is as good as I could get !!   I'm over the moon that this is finished and it has been an enjoyable journey for me.    It's off to the quilter now and see what she can do with it!!

More of Urban Stitches

I took lots of photos at Urban Stitches to share ... so you would  feel like you had been there too!!  And how delicious was the food ..... these gorgeous chocolates were in the middle of each table ... and ours was a little depleted by the end of the day!!

Some of the gorgeous dessert selections at lunch time ....

.... and more ....

.... and more ..... mmmmmmm delicious!!

It was great to see so many of Leanne, Rosie and Melly's projects "in the flesh" .... I find they so often look so much better in real life than in the pattern photos ....

A gorgeous selection of Leanne's pincushions ....

And simply blessed we were ......

Leanne's gorgeous project from last years Urban Stitches ....

And it was really special to be able to see Leanne's beautiful Vignette mystery quilt .... absolutely beautiful and great inspiration for those of us who haven't quite got to the same place she has at the moment ....

Had to share these ..... Rosie's gorgeous flowery shoes ....

And it was lovely to catch up and meet Sharon from Lilabelle Lane and to meet Meg from Perth!!  I will show some of the lovely quilts on display tomorrow!!

Urban Stitches 2012

Sylvia and I had a really enjoyable time at Urban Stitches in Melbourne on Saturday ... run by Leanne Beasley, Rosalie Quinlan and Melanie Dekker ....  a small glimpse of our day ....  gorgeous name tags made by Leanne ...

They must have known I'm an orange girl .... cute little orange bags held all our bits and pieces ...

A cute little fabric kit, scrumptious Cosmo threads, needles, scissors and three lovely kits designed by each of the ladies ....

Rosalie's project was this lovely Urban Sewing Set with pincushion, sewing bag and scissor fob ....

Leanne's project was these gorgeous little doilies ....

And Melly's project was this cute bag ....

It's always fun to catch up with Leanne ....

On Saturday there were over one hundred ladies who enjoyed the Urban Stitches day .... and it was all repeated Sunday for another group ....

Friday lunch in Melbourne .... a glass of bubbles ....

And a lovely mixed platter .... mmmmmm .....

Whoops .... I digress ..... back to stitching ..... lots of lovely displays of kits and projects .... I took lots of photos and will share more over the next couple of days .... if you get a chance to attend Urban Stitches in Melbourne next year, it's well worth it!!!
