Another day in paradise ....

A spectacular day here on the south coast again ..... a gorgeous morning walk .... the water is such an amazing colour at the moment ....

Not much in the way of surf .... but not a cloud in the sky ..... and beautifully warm ....

One happy puppy enjoying swimming out to fetch her ball ....

A bit wet after her swim ....

Just gorgeous .... met some friends along the way .... and wandered back home for coffee and the Sunday papers .... gotta love a long weekend !!

Had a quick trip to Sydney yesterday to see "Cirque du Soleil" with Chelsea ... absolutely amazing ... the costumes were spectacular ....

The performance was incredible ....

I can thoroughly recommend it if you are able to get tickets to see it  ... you won't be disappointed !

"Red Home" Birdhouse Block

I'm back into the red fabrics today and have finished off the birdhouse block for the Red Home quilt I am making .... again it is a little different from the book .... but that's what makes it special to me ....

And while I'm on a bit of a red theme .... I traced and ironed on the next block which is "cat in the roses" ....... hopefully I will find some time over the coming long weekend to do a few stitches on this block !!

Urban Stitching Bag

I have finally finished off part of my set from my trip to Urban Stitches in Melbourne this year!  Rosalie Quinlan made a gorgeous "Urban Sewing Set"  and I have really enjoyed stitching with the wonderful bright and utterly divine Cosmo threads .... I have made the larger design into my version of an "urban stitching bag" (which Rosalie made into a large pincushion) ....

I used the fabric which Rosalie provided us with in the kits and found the same fabric in hot pink to line my bag and make the casings ....  this is a closeup before I gathered it up and sewed it onto the front of my bag ... and that would be an aqua blue ironing board cover in the background !!

I loved all the stitching on this project .... the hot pink outside and inner circle scallops are all worked in satin stitch ... very time consuming but effective ...

And what sewing project is now in this bag???   The smaller design which is what actually should be on the front of the small sewing bag designed by Rosalie .... I'm going to make this smaller design into a pincushion ...  and use all of those gorgeous bright coloured Cosmo threads ....

Here is the cover of Rosalie's pattern ... large pincushion, small sewing bag and tiny scissor keeper .... my full set will soon be complete ....   and this will be a lovely reminder of a fabulous weekend in Melbourne at Urban Stitches ....and if you look on Rosalie's website, you will see details of "Urban Stitches 2013" and her selection of wonderful patterns !!

Harvest Festival Quilt

I'm determined to keep up to date with my current block of the month .... Harvest Festival by Jenelle Kent  from "Pieces to Treasure" ..... and here I have completed the first month's five pieces ....

The applique block and one of the pieced blocks ...

Five blocks completed .... although they are not placed like this when the quilt is finished ....   I just loved the dusky blues and browns with a dash of rust ....

And the applique block for month 2 is a cute little owl which I have now appliqued ready to stitch ....

In my garden this morning .....

I'm glad I waited until this morning to sew together my "Little House Pincushion" by Natalie Bird ..... because then I got to go out into the garden and look for somewhere nice to take a photograph .... and on my wander through the garden (which is not very big I might add) I found a red spot to photograph this cute little pincushion ......

As usual I have changed it a little bit ..... because I never really stick to a pattern completely .... and I have appliqued and blanket stitched the little house and trees on instead of needleturn applique ...

I loved the fabrics I chose and the design and this went together surprisingly easily ....

And on my wander ..... I saw that my wisteria is flowering beautifully ..... it looks gorgeous in the sunshine today ....

I can now tick off another project from the "Red Home" book by Natalie Bird ..... I think I love just about everything in it !!

I can thoroughly recommend this book as one of my most used purchases in recent times ....  enjoy your weekend ..... wherever you may be .... I hope it involves a little bit of stitching time !!

Little House Pincushion in the making ......

I have to admit that while the football is on in this house, I'm playing with this little house pincushion from the "Red Home" book by Natalie Bird .... loving all the fiddly little bits and pieces .... those little half inch hexagons are a bit tiny to work with !!!    Nearly finished ..... hopefully by tomorrow!!

Tiny little red hexagons .... half an inch ... a little bit smaller than I am used to !!

Although having used Sue Daley's sewline glue pen makes it so much easier .... the back !!

All four pieces cut out and ready to assemble .... but after a busy day at work, I think I will leave that until tomorrow .... perhaps I'll join the man of the house on the lounge and pretend to watch some football before I fall asleep!!

Quilt Show Inspiration

I managed to fit in a quick visit to the South Coast Quilt Show on the weekend and there were some gorgeous quilts .......  here are a couple of close ups of beautiful sections of Margaret's lovely lovely quilts .... amazing work and divine quilting .....

I loved the colours and the piecing in this beautiful quilt made by Margaret also ....

Another that took my eye ....

Bright and colourful by another Margaret .....

I liked this one too .....

And this .....

Japanese influence ....

Simple hexagons but very effective and colourful .....

This great quilt was made by Martha and lots of friends for her son's 40th birthday ... great idea and wonderful memories in this quilt ....

Part of Vere's quilt .... great three dimensional effect ....

And a more traditional quilt .... beautifully pieced and quilted ....

One of my favourites was this great quilt with lots of different handbags with different textures and fabrics .... I'm a bit of a bag lady !!!

A close up of one of the bags ....  an inspiring Quilt Show and a credit to all the ladies who worked so hard to put it together and to those who made all the beautiful quilts .... well done !!

Scissor Fob and Lovely Quilts!

A month ago I gave Shirley half of her birthday present .... she received the rest today ..... I gave her a pair of lovely "Scissoroo" embroidery scissors a month ago and finally finished off the  cute little scissor fob using variegated silk and rayon threads .....  better late than never ....

Shirley W has finished off two little embroidered purses ... one using the pattern we did a few weeks ago and one using a "chicken scratching" design of her own .... same purse .... different results .... gorgeous !

Another Shirley this time ..... and Shirley F has made this cute shoe bag with felt flowers !

Marianne is crocheting tiny beanies for premature babies .... very cute !!

Cheryl has finished off this gorgeous version of "Chelsea Bloom" for her little granddaughter who is turning 3!

Margaret has also finished off this terribly cute quilt for her granddaughter .... also turning 3 .... lots of very creative grandmas in my group !

And Joyce has worked some beautiful bullion stitch roses on top of this little covered box ... very special !!
