Canvas Work Scissor Fob & Coffee Mug Bag

I have been trying to finish off a few little canvas work projects which had been started but not quite put together ... they were little kits from other designers which I must admit I put to one side once I started to design my own!   This is another Sue Hawkins scissor fob .... nice colours ....  I added the glass bead and tassel to finish it off!

I have also got a move on with stitching projects for our Needlework Group ... here is a coffee mug bag for those big tall coffee mugs we all have now!!

The other side ....  I hope in all this rainy weather you are all getting a little bit of stitching done ... and spare a thought for those who have lost everything .... stay safe ......our prayers are with you all ....

Caring with Quilts .... Can you help??

On this Australia Day Long Weekend we here in Australia are experiencing the most amazing weather ... some areas are dealing with horrific and devastating bush fires whilst others are now trying to cope with heavy rain and flooding ... this is certainly an amazing situation.   A truly  inspirational  blogging friend, Chookyblue, has decided it would the appropriate Australian thing to do to help out our mates in need  ... see her blog post HERE and see if you are moved to help!

"In the Warrambungles Shire to date
56,000ha has been burnt out
53 homes destroyed
120 shed/out buildings
unknown livestock, machinery, fences etc
The fire is still being controlled today nearly 2 weeks since it started..........
So how can you help.............

If you have a completed quilt that you would like to donate to the people who have been affected by the fires in Warrumbungles Shire could you please leave a comment on this post so I can contact you.
I have been in contact with a couple of friends and we have 7 quilts between us now..............
I am unsure of the ages of the people affected but I did see a mixture of ages when I spent a day at the recovery centre............

What you can send me..............
a completed/bound quilt with a label and a letter/postcard from you with your contact details so if the recipient wants to contact you they can
(Unfortunately I can NOT take blocks etc to put quilts together as i don't have the time, skills or resources available to do this)

The quilts will be distributed via the

Quilts can also be dropped off to
Kerry @ Cottage on the Hill Nundle
Anni @ The Home Patch Bathurst

If you are unable to send a quilt but would like to assist people affect by the fires you can make a donation to Blazeaid."

I have been trying to finish off some bits and pieces before Needlework starts again for the year .... I had stitched most of this little Pyramid Scissor Keeper (Sue Hawkins kit) but finally got to put it together yesterday (a rare day off work!!)  ....

This is the back of the scissor keeper and it happens to be the same colours as the pincushion I made.  I am giving away the pincushion as my 4 years of blogging anniversary gift in conjunction with the Grow Your Blog party!

Catching up and finishing off!!

Now I have finished off the Red Home quilt I thought I would try to finish off a few UFO's ... and I'm putting the finishing touches to this canvas work piece which was a kit given to me by designer Sue Hawkins but which I have changed around a bit (as I do!!)  ....  love all the bright colours ... I think this will become a pincushion ....

And I only had a little bit of stitching to do to complete this "Pieces to Treasure" block on my Harvest Festival block of the month quilt  ... the linen I have stitched on frays a bit,  but is lovely to work with ... and I really love the fabrics used in this quilt too!

Off to the Quilters ... Red Home Finished!!

After a busy week at work it was lovely to sit down and have an hour or two this afternoon to finish off the borders on my "Red Home" quilt !!!   I have LOVED making this quilt and will now have to finish off some more of the smaller items in the book ... looking forward to that!!

This is earlier in the afternoon without the outside borders on!   As you can see I have changed a few of the blocks from the original design by Natalie Bird ... and I love the end result .... and I can hardly wait to see what quilting designs Jenny comes up with this time!!   Enjoy your weekend ... and happy stitching!!

Red Home Quilt .... almost there !!

A couple of hours at the sewing machine yesterday afternoon saw this progress on my Red Home quilt! It is now all put together up to the inner border stage.... for a moment I did think about stopping it here, but then I made a couple of the half square triangles and decided they really do need to go on it ....

So ..... I made 52 half square triangles and started to place them around the outside .... I'm pretty happy with this, so will hopefully get to sew them on in the next few days!    But for me today it's back to work ......

Red Home Quilt .... nearly finished !!

As I'm going back to work tomorrow and the productivity rate will surely decrease, I'm on a bit of a mission to finish off the top of my Red Home Quilt ....  yesterday afternoon, after a morning at the beach, it looked like this .....

And then a little later on .... and many many more tiny squares later .... it looked like this ... two-thirds finished and only a little more to go ....... maybe this afternoon .......

Red Home Quilt

I have finally finished stitching the appliqué blocks for my "Red Home" quilt .... this is the last block (with a few of my own changes)  ....

It was fun to place all the blocks out onto the floor in my sewing room and to see that they do actually all fit in together nicely !!   Now to fill the centre blocks ....

My first centre block with a large pieced star ... all the centre area is filled with lighter coloured pieced blocks with these larger stars and some smaller ones .... maybe this afternoon will see a little more progress on this fun quilt ... I have so loved making this quilt .... I think it's the red fabrics I love the most .... all mostly French General!!

Stitch A Long 2013

I have decided to join Chookyblue's Stitch A Long again this year and we are working through a couple of my favourite books .... Red Home and Tis The Season by Natalie Bird and Some Kind of Wonderful by Anni Downs ... we are making a series of small items which is a great idea for a change ... and probably more achievable for me!!

And my first little project is one of the thread catcher bags from the Red Home book by Natalie Bird ... I think this is the quickest project I have ever made .... and useful too ....  And it goes beautifully with the little red pincushion I made from the same book last year!!

Red Home Quilt Blocks

I had a lovely couple of hours of stitching time yesterday .... a good start to the New Year!!!   I am making the quilt from the Red Home book by Natalie Bird ....

I did change the dog on a scooter block to become a chocolate labrador with a quilt in her mouth ... trust me this has happened in our house with one particular chocolate labrador !!   This is one of Lynette Anderson's designs ....

Here is the block with red squares attached ...

And the pretty red robin block ....

With red squares attached .... and so now I have one block left to finish on this quilt and then I can hopefully put it all together .... a good sewing start to the New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

It has become a bit of a tradition here to have a champagne on the beach as the sun goes down at the end of the year and last night we did just that .... some had a surf ....

And we watched the sun go down ...

And these photos show how Sydney celebrated New Years Eve with an impressive display ....  I'm not really into fire works but these photos from this mornings news are amazing ...

I hope your New Year is bright and colourful ...

And filled with warmth and love .... and lots of peaceful stitching times ... (which is what I plan to do today!!)
