Christmas Stitching on the Lake

We had a fabulous day at "Christmas Stitching on the Lake" in Canberra yesterday ....  over 80 ladies enjoyed stitching, chatting, eating and shopping !!!     We worked well into Friday evening setting up the hall and Najelle and Terrie from Hobbysew Belconnen also came and set up their gorgeous stall for which we thank them .... my bag came home a little heavier with some fabric etc. that I just had to have !!     This was Friday evening when set up was finally completed .....  We started to turn off the lights and realised how lovely all the red bags were with their gorgeous "Filled with Love" logo (thanks to Kikki K) ...

Saturday morning dawned bright and early for us and here is the scene before the ladies all arrived ..

And this is shortly after they arrived ....

Lots of chatting and laughter to be heard as they all stitched the day away ... the Hobbysew stall tempted way too many ladies !!

Here is Najelle re-stocking the fat quarter bundles which were walking out the door !

Sylvia and I .... in the quiet before the ladies all arrived ...

So many beautiful fabrics and treats to be tempted with at the stall ....

Lynne, our fabulous caterer, excelled again with some gorgeous delights during the day ... Australian Christmas Bush and Kangaroo Paw flowers and a lovely Christmas greeting on the catering table ..

Lynne and Sammi, her offsider, putting out a beautiful display for morning tea ...  thank you so much .... it was all beautiful ...

A small herd of reindeer were completed on one of the tables during the day !

Our good friend, Rose, came up from Melbourne to stitch the day away with us all ... always great fun to catch up with Rose ....

I saw lots of lovely sewing accessories throughout the day, but forgot to photograph all of them .. this was a cute needle case I saw which was made by one of the ladies ...

Celia and Diane also bought their gorgeous candles and paper art to tempt us ... so many delicious scents .... and all so beautifully presented ....

So as the year closes on our Stitching Days, we want to thank all the ladies who have joined us throughout the year for our Retreat and Stitching Days ... we have had lots of fun together, shared good times (and some sad times) but mostly have been bought together by our love of needle and thread .... may you all enjoy a blessed and peaceful Christmas ... and may you find many hours of relaxing stitching times in the coming year ....  we will keep you posted about Stitching Days in 2015!!  xx

Christmas Stitching on the Lake Projects

It is now less than a week until our final stitching day for the year .... "Christmas Stitching on the Lake" in Canberra on Saturday 29 November 2014 !!    The kits are all ready, the bags are nearly packed and the projects are looking very "Christmassy" .... here are my three projects ....   we all love cross stitch for its simplicity and here is a cute little Christmas decoration worked in 221 red to hang on the Christmas tree ....

When I was thinking about a Christmas stocking, I decided to make one for Jed for his first Christmas ... as he was born into a surfing family, he needed to have a Santa with a surfboard ....  if a surfboard isn't your thing, then a Christmas tree can be appliquéd in its place .... the background fabric is provided for this project and the ladies will need to bring their favourite fabrics for appliqué and some fusible webbing ....

I have made another little decoration in canvas work for the Christmas tree .... the colours used are 221 red, 3011 green, 783 gold, 3781 brown and ecru or a light colour for the background.   The canvas will be provided in your kit but you will need a tapestry needle for stitching!

You will need your threads to complete this basket liner or mat - if you like to back your fabric whilst stitching, you will need some light interfacing like G700 (approx. 40cm square)

This foundation pieced small hanging will look great on your wall for Christmas .... bring your ruler, biro, sewing machine thread and small scraps of fabric to complete ...

This little felt reindeer is made by hand and all felt is included .... you will need to go in search of small twigs for his antlers when you have stitched him together !

Sylvia's  has also blogged about the projects on her blog, so pop on over for a look there!   We are both looking forward to catching up with all the ladies who are coming for our end of year get together and Christmas Stitching Day ....  see you there !!
