"Natures Journey" May Blocks

I have now come back down to earth after our lovely relaxing holiday and have finished off my May blocks in my "Natures Journey" quilt which I am doing with the "Stitch A Long" group online.

This is a great way to complete a quilt and it makes you very accountable for finishing off each month's required blocks .

I'm enjoying the simplicity of appliqué and blanket stitch for my quilt.

In amongst the pile of mail on our return was some very happy mail including the "Farm Girl Vintage" book which I have admired online, written by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet.

I would love this pile of quilts on the front inside cover of the book ...

And I would be quite happy to have a cupboard full of lovely bright quilts like these too !

It has been a glorious day here ... very nice to get out and about along the beaches with the dogs for walk ...

Just look at the colour of the water here ... we are very blessed to live where we do ...

Such a beautiful clear day .... but a little bit chilly this morning (especially after enjoying 35 degrees of sun and warmth every day in Thailand) ...

And yesterday was a little bit cooler when we took Jed for a walk along the beach ... here he is all rugged up ... and trying to throw tennis balls for the dogs to chase ...

I hope your weekend has been relaxing and peaceful .... with a little bit of stitching time somewhere !!

James Bond Island

We had a fun day yesterday venturing out in a long tail boat to James Bond Island ("the Man with the Golden Gun" 1974) and also sea canoeing through the sea caves and mangroves!   Will now have to go back home and watch the movie again !!

Pincushions, Stitching and Mothers Day

I have been playing with a few little projects lately, some of which I cannot share because they are "surprises" for upcoming stitching days and gifts ....  but I have finished a couple of things .... one being this fun little pincushion from Shiralee Stitches .... my own version ..... finished yesterday afternoon ....

And put together today and now in use !!

I was happy to receive some lovely mail on Friday ... a few Gail Pan designs to work on ....

I have been organising a little bit of travel stitching to take away with me this week .... this is one of Rosalie Quinlans "United Stitches" and I'm using some of my favourite Cottage Garden Threads (this one is "Gumboot") for the stitching ....   it has all the same colours as this piece of Moda "Heart's Content" fabric from the Laundry Basket Quilts range .... which I love ....

I have also traced out and started a little bit of stitching on Gail's Sewing Collage pattern ... nice simple stitching for a plane trip ....

And it's Mothers Day here today and I have had calls and Skype sessions from New York, Perth and Townsville from three of our children and a lovely lunch with our daughter Ashleigh, her husband Tim and our gorgeous grandson Jed ... who bought around this cute little herb garden with his handprint on it ...

I have had a lovely day .... and I hope all mothers reading this have had an enjoyable and relaxing day filled with love and laughter with treasured family members ....  although we cannot all be together all the time to mark every special occasion, it is amazing how great it is to be able to Skype and connect with the other side of the country and the other side of the world on days like this ....

Ash made a beautiful fruit flan for dessert ....

And Jed bought his mum Ashleigh a gorgeous bunch of flowers yesterday ...

And very very early tomorrow morning we are off to somewhere nice and warm for a short break to celebrate my birthday (this week) and David's (last week) ..... my suitcase is looking a little worse for wear (well travelled I like to think) but is now being packed with a couple of sarongs and a couple of swimming costumes for some time in the sun .....

Christmas is coming .....

Shirley F has been very very busy stitching together little decorations for this coming Christmas ... can't believe how productive she has been with these !!

Lots of lovely felt decorations .... stockings and mittens ....

More felt stockings ....

And some red embroidered ones also .... just lovely Shirley .... and very organised for Christmas already !!

Margaret has finished off this very cute quilt for a special little person ....

The colours look great and her stitching and first go at machine quilting are wonderful !!

Shirley also made me a lovely pink flower brooch ... along the lines of the poppies which were stitched for Anzac Day ... this one is pink one for breast cancer awareness .... thank you Shirley for the lovely thought !  xx

Sewing Room Fun !!

Ashleigh called around yesterday to get some help to put together a couple of baby change mats for  two friends having babies .... The help she needed was to keep the little fingers away from the sewing machine and iron .... so instead of getting in the way Jed played with the off cuts of fabric and made all the animal noises of the animals on the fabric .... Classic time waster !!!!

Lots of lovely bright colours and designs in these two little quilts which will be off to the quilter to work her magic this week !!

I found my scissors ... and more

How exciting is it when something you thought you had "misplaced" turns up when you are least expecting it ??    I was searching for a particular thread this morning and came across my favourite little pair of travel scissors - stork scissors with blunt ends for travelling !!    I also happen to like the scissor fob attached so it was nice to "find" them this morning !!

Here is a beautiful quilt made by Jennie who is a member of my Needlework group.  This was based upon some of the designs of the projects at our "Stitching in the Hills" Retreat last year and she has put together a gorgeous keepsake quilt for a special friend ....

She has added a few of her own adaptations to the designs and it looks lovely ...

I love all the colours and particularly love the range of fabrics which we used which was the Moda "Mirabelle" range ...

Her embroidery embellishment on all the designs is just gorgeous ...

Lots of beautiful stitching and patchwork ...

Pauline has been crocheting up a storm with these little penguins destined for friends at an "Antarctic Reunion" later this year ...  very appropriate ...

And she has made this cute little donkey also ...

And I have cut out some squares to help Ashleigh put together a little quilt for a new baby due soon ...

Lots of bright colours and cute patterns on these fabrics I bought from Hobbysew Belconnen !

Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend .... and I hope it involves a little bit of stitching !!
