School House Sampler Scissor Keeper

I loved stitching another of these little Sue Hawkins designs when I misplaced my original scissor keeper ... here it is all ready pressed and ready to stitch together ...

And to the finished piece I added a little tassel and a twisted yarn hanger and attached my little scissors ...

We had a beautiful walk on both days of the weekend ... our first weekend at home together (that means by ourselves with no visitors) for ages ..... a walk down down along the beaches on Saturday and a walk northwards along the beaches on  Sunday .... the weather was beautiful ....

The water was crystal clear and so blue and this little pink flower caught my eye ....

Just beautiful .....

More Sewing Room Fun

I realised I missed a little bit of my sewing room .... my grandmothers old Singer Sewing Machine which we had done up a few years ago .... sitting on top is a beautiful old Singer Machine which came from a friend ....  above this is a big Hardanger piece I worked years and years ago and a big cross stitch ... all sewing related ....

My beautiful little Liberty hexie bag (a gift from Sylvia) sits on the old Sewing Machine too .....

A few bits and pieces on my shelves ..... two huge jars of buttons ....

And pencils, pens, scissors, markers, stuffing tools up the other end .... and my favourite orange tea cup ...

This says it all .....

Re-Styled Sewing Room

As Chelsea and Kye's family are expanding next year, they needed to re-home their second lounge to make way for a baby room ..... so I offered to look after it for them for a while ...... it may be a long while ......
so late on Sunday afternoon David decided I should put it all together and makeover my sewing room ... not really what I needed to do after such a big weekend but I'm really happy with the results !!

I have a lovely old dresser which is filled with lots of sewing bits and pieces and the shelves are great for displaying some of my favourite pincushions and sewing pieces ....

My bookshelf (at the opposite end of the room) is filled to overflowing and my cutting table has been moved over again the wall with my patchwork chairs tucked underneath  ..... the long thin table has moved to in front of the window and my sewing machine and saddle chair are on one end .... all ready to open the blinds and enjoy the view ....

Some embroidered pieces on the shelf .....

I always wanted to hang a quilt in my sewing room and decided that my Anni Downs "Natures Journey" quilt had lots of nice teal blues in it and matched the lounge so up it went ....

I have some cork boards with photos and inspiration on them up beside the lounge .....  I am looking forward to spending some time in this lovely room which is downstairs and nice and cool in the summer ....  I think I am beginning to embrace this "retirement" thing .... I have been fairly disciplined in walking 8-10 km each day and regaining my fitness after my bout of pneumonia ... but the pull of this lovely "new" sewing room could be my downfall !!!

Early Christmas Celebrations

We all had a great weekend together celebrating an early Christmas this past weekend .... as previously mentioned we will be missing one this Christmas who is headed off overseas in a couple of weeks on deployment so we decided an early Christmas was needed .... and no-one enjoyed it more than these three little elves !!!     Jonah, Jed and Clay loved the fact that they were all together and creating lots of noise and laughs !

Sam took this photo of us all sitting down to lunch and as Nadia was working in Sydney, David is holding a photo of Sam and Nadia so we are all in the photo !!

Just a glimpse of dessert !!!!    Classic pavlova covered in fresh fruit and a white chocolate and raspberry frozen ice-cream dessert !!!!

Last surfs were had and the boys all had a great time together !

And our grandchildren were just delightful .... it is such an absolute treat to have them all together ... amazing to think that next year there will be another one joining this crew on the quilt !!!

And I have to say the house is VERY quiet this week without them all here .... although we did have Wednesday with Jed and Clay yesterday and took Clay to swimming lessons which he loves !

Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking and Sydney

We had a quick trip to Sydney over the weekend for a family reunion .... 45 members of my family came together at my brother's house in Manly for a wonderful lunch and special family time .... also to celebrate my mum's 88th birthday a couple of weeks ago ....

A trip to Manly on the ferry bought back memories from when David and I used to live in Manly when we were first married ..... and the Sydney Harbour Bridge is pretty spectacular on a sunny day ....

Chelsea and Kye in the pool watching the Manly Ferry sail past ..... we were very blessed with the weather on Saturday !

These beautiful passionfruit flowers never fail to amaze me ...... so very intricate and beautiful ..... and very hard to embroider !!!   This of course means there are lots of green passionfruit on our vine which will be ready to eat soon !!!

In between trips to Sydney and looking after the grandchildren, I have been trying to finish off this "Sophie" Christmas Stocking from the Shepherds Bush range ...... I need to make two little girl Christmas Stockings before 25 December .... one for Malia and one for Lyndie ..... our two newest additions to our family !

And yesterday we had the day with Jed and Clay and as all our immediate family are coming this weekend for an early Christmas celebration we decided to buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with a little help from the two little monkeys ..... they loved it !!!    Why are we having Christmas in mid November .... because someone is heading off overseas on deployment for six months ..... enough said .....

Jed the joke master was on fire yesterday with some hilarious jokes ..... such a cutie !!!

Fiji

My sister and I had a lovely 6 days in Fiji last week celebrating my retirement ....  the weather was perfect and just what the doctor ordered to aid in my recovery from pneumonia ....  blue skies and sunshine !!

One of David's retirement gifts to me was a voucher for a few hours at a Day Spa ..... lucky for me the Day Spa was in Fiji .....

Frangipanis are my favourites .... and in Fiji they are so lush and abundant ....

I may have snuck a couple of hours in this hammock reading ....

We had a beautiful day out on Malamala Island .... the colour of the water was just beautiful !!

And the infinity pool overlooking the beautiful water was simply amazing !!!

And on the last night there ..... a spectacular Fijian sunset !!

And just like that the week was over and it was back home  ....... where I aim to be more creative, regain my fitness and rediscover my cooking mojo  ........  interspersed with lots of grandchildren cuddles along the way ....... speaking of which there will be another arriving in early May 2019 .......

Prairie Flower Pincushion

Well here is my first retirement finish !!!!    Yayyyy !!!!   I must admit I started the hexagons at a Retreat in Victoria in September but finally managed to put it all together on Monday .... my first day at home ....

I loved the kit with the fabrics which I bought in Victoria a couple of years ago ... and it matches my pencil case perfectly !!!    It all went together very easily too which is always a bonus !!    I might add that on Monday I also walked 8km, had a bike ride, did the shopping and cooked an amazing dinner for my husband ..... so that he didn't think I just lazed about all day in retirement !!!!

Lots Happening

It has been over a month since I was last here and it has been a very hectic month indeed !   I have had viral pneumonia and been out of action for most of that time .... not much fun at all !

Unfortunately I couldn't spend time with the grandchildren at all and had to cancel some events which was a bit sad for me .... but the kids kept me happy with lots of photos .... like this one of Jed ready for a surf with his dad !!

I received some beautiful flowers from special friends .....

Then I managed to make it to a weekend in Berry with my mum and my sisters for a yearly celebration for mum's 88th birthday at the end of October ....

It was the Berry Open Gardens Weekend and here are mum and I sitting amongst the lavender in one of the beautiful gardens ......

The biggest news of all is that this photo of me is on my Retirement Day on 26th October !!!  I can't quite believe it yet I don't think !    I got the doctors permission to fly to Fiji for 6 days only a few days before I was due to leave .... chest x-rays all clear now and am on the mend.    So my sister and I have just returned from a lovely week in Fiji resting and relaxing and celebrating retirement !!!     More pics of Fiji next time!
