Stitch The Day Away

I'm heading north tomorrow .... a long way north ...... to Marcoola in Queensland to spend Sunday "stitching the day away" with Lynette Anderson and Anni Downs .... I'm very much looking forward to a day of stitching where someone else is doing the teaching for a change and I get to sit and relax ....  and hopefully the weather will be beautiful and sunny too and I might even sneak in a swim or two up there at the beach !!   I'm meeting up with Sylvia and some of the girls from Canberra too so that will be fun !!!

I have completed this little needle case for a swap for the day .... Lynette provided us with a pattern to make up the little needle case and I have chosen to embroider mine .... hope the lucky recipient likes it !!

It is fun getting all my little bits and pieces together for the workshop .....

I would be a bit lost without my little quilt clips, scissors, hoop, appliqué pins, needles, and the list goes on and on ..... not to mention clothes packing for a few days away !!

I'm sitting here in my sewing room and glanced up at the Christmas Stockings hanging up .....

I have now stitched 5 of these gorgeous Shepherds Bush Christmas stockings ..... I need to do a lot more though .... we have had one new baby this year .... Leo .... and another one due in the next few weeks, so my time will be busy between now and Christmas ....

#stitchtherapy365

This spectacular sunrise sky greeting us on Monday morning as we walked the dogs along the beach. It was breathtaking ....

Looking out to sea was beautiful .... the colours amazing .... and then turning around and looking back inland there was a beautiful pink sky ..... it turned out to be stunning day too !!

I have been busily stitching away at my #stitchtherapy365 project .... here are some of the finished stories ....

I have also just received the sixth block of "Where We Love is Home" .... and I just love the fabrics each month when this arrives .....

I better get my act together and finish off the previous block before I start this one !!!

Noosa

We had a lovely 5 days in sunny Noosa last week .... between two weddings ..... both family friends .... one was the previous Saturday and the other last Saturday ..... so we snuck away for 5 days of sunshine and wasn't it just beautiful !!

We went with my sister and her husband and had a fabulous time in the warm weather, swimming and relaxing ....

We did do quite a lot of walking through the National Parklands as well which was great ....

We ate far too well and enjoyed some delicious meals together ....

As well as a few delicious cocktails ....

And then it was back to rainy cold Sydney ......

It was very bleak and grey on Friday when we arrived ....

I have been stitching a little bit of canvas work which is portable and easy to take on the plane ....

Jonah and Malia are enjoying their new life in southern NSW ..... these are the jumpers which my mum sent to them .....

Fathers Day was spent driving home with a stop off at the Canberra family for a quick lunch .... here is Elliott, David and Sam ..... Sam was just visiting Nadia's family in Canberra so we were lucky to catch up with him there too !!

And this new dad (Kye) was loving giving his gorgeous little lion man (Leo) his first taste of avocado yesterday .... and Leo loved it !!!

Snow Bunnies and Cold Weather

It has been freezing here over the weekend and some of the kids did a snow trip whilst the others are freezing in their new abode in Canberra .....

Ash and Tim took the kids down to the snow for the weekend .... here are Jed and Clay all rugged up against the cold weather with their little snowman .....

Lyndie didn't venture out into the snow too much as it was freezing ....but they loved seeing the overnight snow outside ....

Jed snowboarding ....

Meanwhile back in Canberra, Malia was all rugged up for an outing ..... but quite happy despite the cold ....

And some sibling love at bath time .... Jonah and Malia in their new house ....

And Leo looking as cute as ever in his little Lion King suit .....

Where We Love is Home Quilt

Today's pincushion was made a few years back but is still a firm favourite .... I tend to have a pincushion for each project I am working on  ..... somewhere to place my needle and thread and any pins I might be using ..... it's nice to remember the time it was made and appreciate the work that went into it ....

I love the colours in this pincushion and enjoyed the fiddly process of weaving the threads to make each diamond stand out ..... this is where my pins are placed today !

Yesterday I had a lovely day in  my sewing room .... it doesn't happen very often that I have an uninterrupted day of sewing .... so I got to work on putting together the next block in my "Where We Love Is Home" quilt .....   I have appliquéd my designs rather than needle turning them .... I like the texture and simplicity of blanket stitching .....   here is the butterfly block before the addition of the pieced blocks .....

And then the pieced blocks were added ......

I loved stitching the "My Neighbourhood" block ..... all the houses and the orange flowers were lovely to spend time on ..... there is quite a lot of stitching in this quilt too which I love .....

And the finished piece with the added blocks on each end of it .....

Loving the bright colours and enjoying seeing this come together .....

Stitching and Family

I'm late again with my pincushion of the week ..... another busy week here with my son and his wife moving from Sydney to Canberra this week .... so grandmother skills were required !!!

This is a favourite patchwork pincushion which as you can see I use very regularly for my pins .... I love all the fabrics and it was made from a kit I purchased at Hatched and Patched in Bathurst a number of years ago .....

I was really excited to received these charm packs in the mail of the new Moda line called "Safari Life" .... these will be made into a nappy change mat for Sam and Nadia for their new baby (grandchild number 7) who is due in early October ....Nadia's mum is from South Africa and the kids have recently been on safari in Africa so I thought this would be a great mat for them to use ..... now to get stitching it together !!!

It has been a big week and yesterday Lyndie turned 1 .....I cannot believe where that year has gone .... way too fast .... she loved the Ikea kitchen which David and I bought her for her birthday (I did check with her mum that she was happy to have a kitchen given to a one year old girl and she was happy with that .... and her big brothers loved it too)

And we have had Chelsea and Leo staying for a couple of days also .... he is such a big boy sitting up in a little special seat now and still so very cute ....

Leo is always chuckling and is most happy after his morning feed .    Here he is in his little Peter Alexander pyjamas (which he is quickly growing out of) and lying on the patchwork quilt made by my embroidery ladies ..... such very special times to have all these little people filling our hearts and lives with so much joy .....

Pincushion and #stitchtherapy365

Tuesday is pincushion day so here is another pincushion .... a very firm favourite from a design by Sue Hawkins which I absolutely loved stitching ..... this is where my needle and thread will be planted today .....

I love the colours and really enjoy canvas work stitching so this one is a big hit with me !!

Today we are up to Day 211 of #stitchtherapy365 and I am happy to be up to date with this ....

I am really loving all the little designs and the simplicity of the stitching ....

And if I keep up to date, it allows me time to focus on some quilting projects I have on the go at the moment .....

Something that took me away from my favourite stitching couch on the weekend was a great walk up to the top of a nearly mountain .... Durras Mountain ...... and down the other side .......

It's quite steep going up and going down the other side, so my walking poles were essential ..... it takes a lot of the pressure off my knees which is very helpful !!

We saw a bit of wildlife .... lots of tiny kangaroos in the bush who were happy to let us photograph them ....

We had a lovely picnic lunch down on the waters edge at Clear Point ..... then turned around and walked back up that mountain and back down the other side and home again ..... about 18km all up .... a good workout after spending the day in the car on Saturday .....
