Sunrise and Stitch Therapy

Yesterday morning when we walked the dogs along the beach there was the most spectacular sunrise ....

We are often rewarded with a beautiful view when the sun comes up ... the best part of it is that there is usually no one else on the beach and we get to enjoy it all to ourselves .....

I am enjoying stitching the small stitcheries each day for Helen Stubbings #stitchtherapy365 ..... so far I have been keeping up to date .....

So much easier to find time in the day to do everything when you don't have to go to work .......

These little stitcheries are quick and fun to do so if you are thinking of starting this 365 day project, contact Helen Stubbings at Hugs n Kisses in Tasmania .....

Liberty Quilt Progress

The other day I posted on Instagram that "today seems like a good day to start a Liberty quilt" ..... and it was .... I had a lovely time on Saturday afternoon playing in my sewing room ....

I prepared some of the backgrounds and then ironed on the liberty pieces ready for blanket stitching ....

Here is half of the quilt all prepared and ready for hand stitching ....  I'm not sure how I will place the colours when I have done all the stitching, but I'm loving the colours and of course I do love Liberty fabrics ....

More progress to come shortly .......

Stephs at Moruya

I had a little drive down to Moruya this morning to get some supplies at Stephs Patchwork Shop .... it has been a while since I have been down there and there were some beautiful bits and pieces on display ....

Some gorgeous bags and fabrics ....

Loved this quilt with its different gray backgrounds .....

Inspiring quilts and gorgeous fabrics all around ....

There is a little coffee shop in one corner of Stephs so it is lovely to be able to shop and then stop for a coffee when you need it .....

Loved all of the fabrics and all the bits and pieces on display .... wishing I could have bought a whole lot more home with me ....

But I settled for about 20 DMC threads that I needed, some Vliesofix, a new blade for my Olfa cutter, and some fabrics to make a little change mat quilt for Chelsea and Kye's baby .... that was enough for one day !!! Well worth a visit if you are down on the south coast of New South Wales ......

Blind Date .... 41 years

Today is 41 years since we met on a blind date at lunchtime ..... and the rest as they say is history .....

So we celebrated with a beautiful lunch at St Isidore at Milton on the South Coast .....

And here we are not long after we met 41 years ago ...... both looking very young and a lot thinner !!!

Today the little boys all went to a wildlife park in Sydney with their aunties and uncles and had a great day .... here are Chelsea and Kye snuggling up with Jed, Clay and Jonah .... and a little wallaby ....

And the boys were excited about the scary snakes .....

#stitchtherapy365 and a new Liberty quilt

On my walk yesterday morning, I called past Ashleigh's house and was greeted by this little treasure .... Lyndie .... smiling as always and full of laughs at 5 months of age .....

I'm happy to be keeping up to date with #stitchtherapy365 by Helen Stubbings ..... such a fun stitch ....

It is hard to photograph each individual stitchery as they are smallish .... but you get the general idea ....

I am changing some colours and some stitches along the way .......

And yesterday I decided to start a Liberty quilt which I purchased the fabrics for a couple of years ago when visiting Millrose Cottage in country Victoria.    So special to pull out these gorgeous fabrics and plain fabrics and looking forward to creating this quilt ......

I have cut 49 backgrounds out of the plain coloured fabrics and now to start cutting into the Liberty fabrics .......  my favourites of all ..........

Summer Fun

We had a nice walk around the headland the other day and met up with these two little monkeys .... Jed and Clay ....

Then Tim and Jed decided to surf the point ..... and the littlest one was left behind with Davey to watch from a distance ......  Tim and Jed are sharing a board in the distance ..... and at 4 years of age this little surfer dude is now standing up which is exciting for him .... and his dad ....

We have enjoyed some early morning sunrises on our morning walks with the dogs .....

And you know it will be a good day when your sister and her husband and two friends helicopter in for a visit .... they are on a golfing trip down the coast and dropped in for a visit and a meal .....  and the little boys were very excited to have the helicopter fly over their house and circle and wave to them ....

Another beautiful sunrise .....

And I am enjoying stitching Helen Stubbings stitchtherapy365 every day .... I am determined to keep up with this one .....

Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking No. 6 & Stitch Therapy 365

One of my frangipani plants in the garden has just started to flower .... I love the scent and frangipanis are my favourites ..... such a summery feel on a rainy afternoon here !!

Produce from the vegetable garden today included cucumber and our first three passionfruit for the year !!

I am determined to keep up to date with Helen Stubbings #stitchtherapy365 ..... I have now completed days 9, 10 and 11 ..... with a couple of colour changes and the odd change of stitch here and there, I am enjoying this simple stitching .....

And here we have a blank canvas ready for the next Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking ....  I'm looking forward to starting this later today .....

Stitch Therapy 365 by Helen Stubbings of Hugs n Kisses

I am really enjoying the simplicity of this 365 day project by Helen Stubbings of Hugs n Kisses.   Helen has devised a great plan for us to have a few minutes of "stitch therapy" each day for the whole year .... and at the end of the year there will be a beautiful quilt to be put together ....

We started off with a very simple "Z" stitched with backstitch, followed by the next three days stitching .... the sausage dog is meant to be stitched onto fabric and appliquéd on to the printed background, but I wanted all of mine to be stitched so have already adapted the pattern and the colours to suit me (and this was only day 4 of stitch therapy) !!!!

I purchased the background from Helen which had the designs already printed on to it, added some stabiliser to the back and was ready to start stitching ......  if you are on Instagram you can have a look at the #stitchtherapy365 page on there for some inspiration !

So I currently have 8 days down and 357 days to go ..... but the idea is not to rush but to enjoy the peaceful therapy of stitching ..... such a lovely idea and I think I am going to enjoy this project ......

Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking No. 5

I have now finally finished and sewn together my fifth Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking.  This one is for our eldest son Sam ..... the first picture is before all the charms and beads are added .....

And finished, bound and pressed ...... and I am way too organised for Christmas 2019 !!!   I now have only another 10 to make until everyone in our family has one which will hopefully become heirlooms for them all .... actually make that 11 with our newest grandchild coming in May 2019 !!!

Family Times

I loved capturing this photo of Ashleigh and Jonah playing in Ashleigh's back yard .....

Lots of beach time spent .... here is David and Jonah ....

The five little cousins had such a lovely time together  .... trying to keep them still for a photo is another story !!!!

We cannot believe these five little blessings have made such a difference to our lives .... if anyone had suggested to me before that grandparenting was the best I would have been quite skeptical .... however we absolutely love our times with these little monkeys and this was after an afternoon of water playing in the backyard at Ashleigh and Tim's ..... all exhausted and wet ...... but they bring us such great joy .... we are looking forward to early May 2016 when Chelsea and Kye will add their little bundle of joy to the equation!

Fiona, Lyndie, David, Malia, Jed, Clay and Jonah .........

Holiday fun

We have had some lovely beach days with all the children .... here are Kye, Jed, David and Clay jumping in the rock pools at the beach !!

Malia loves her Cuddle and Kind "Charlotte the Dog" which we gave her for Christmas ..... it is certainly a great idea where for each knitted doll sold, 10 meals are donated to children.   If you haven't heard of this before, have a look at the Cuddle and Kind website.

And there were a few water bomb fights with the uncles and nephews too ..... Jonah got Sam a beauty with this one !!

This little cute boy playing on the sand ..... Jonah .....

And he loves Uncle Sam filling in for his dad while he is away .... here they are in our new kayak which was a Christmas present .... we have had lots of fun in this already .... except that I lost it on a big wave coming in to the beach and parted company with my prescription sunglasses into a huge patch of seaweed .... an expensive paddle on that day !!!

Malia is a sheer delight ......
