Sunflowers and #stitchtherapy

I love sunflowers and it was lovely to come across this great specimen on my morning walk yesterday ....

Sunday was a beautiful day here and David headed out for a paddle in the kayak .....

And another beautiful sunrise yesterday morning ....

And today is Day 50 of Helen Stubbings #stitchtherapy365 project ..... here is the piece so far ....
this is really enjoyable to stitch .....

And the last few days of stitching ....

Whoops .... just realised I haven't stitched the outline on the piece below .... better get on to that !! And I added some little holly berries to this piece too....

Hope you have found some time for a peaceful stitch or two today .....

#stitchtherapy365 and Tilda Inspiration

I am enjoying playing catch up on my #stitchtherapy365 project by Helen Stubbings ..... after being away up north for 5 days last week and over the weekend, I have enjoyed the quiet solitude of stitch therapy since coming back home .....

I think I have now completed days 36 to 44 and have enjoyed that some have a little more detail than others .....

Although it is nice to have a simple one every so often .....

Again, I have changed the colours and have decided not to stitch some onto fabrics and then appliqué onto the background .....

I am sticking to the same 12 colours throughout .....

And am hoping to perhaps incorporate some Liberty fabrics around the outside when all the stitching is completed .... at the end of 365 days !!!

And after meeting the lovely Tone Finnanger of Tilda Designs at the Tokyo Quilt Festival, I decided I needed a couple of her inspiring books for my collection ....

I could have bought them in Tokyo, however they were all in Japanese .......

So the books I have added to my collection are "Hot Chocolate Sewing" and "Sewing by Heart" ...  I can see lots of beautiful projects in both these books that I may need to make in my retired years !!!

I did particularly love the beautiful bags and pouches which were on display in Tokyo .....

And we had another fun Wednesday with these two little monkeys yesterday .... Jed and Clay .....
always keep us on our toes ..... I think you can tell that from their cheeky little grins .....

Hope your week is fun and you find time for some peaceful stitching ......

Pin Pals by Carrie Nelson

Because I have so many books on my bookshelf, I often think twice now before buying a book related to embroidery or patchwork ..... however I did not give a second thought to buying "Pin Pals" by Carrie Nelson .....

Many of you who know me will know that pincushions are my weakness, so I grabbed a few of my favourites and put them with this book for a photo .....

This book is filled with 40 patchwork pincushions which are all very cute and very achievable .... and such a great idea to use up some of those fabric scraps ....

I love them all but can see a few here that I might like to add to my collection !!

"Pin Pals" is published by Martingale and is such a gorgeous book .....

I bought this book after seeing a number of other people on their blogs who have purchased the book and made lots of the little pincushions .... I just fell in love with them and had to add it to my collection !!

If you love pincushions as much as I do, I can highly recommend this gorgeous book ..... it may well keep you entertained for hours !!

Liberty Quilt

I am playing around with layout for this Liberty Quilt which I am nearly finished the stitching on ....

It is a Rae Telfer pattern called "Luscious Lollypops" and I bought it ages ago when visiting Millrose Cottage in Ballan, Victoria ....

I love the Liberty fabrics included and have added a couple of my own just because I love them !

Some of my favourites .....

I am blanket stitching around the outside of the appliqué circles in a colour which is as close to the background fabrics as I can find ....

The beautiful background fabrics were included in the kit too .... such a bonus !!

Beautiful fabrics to work with .... as any Liberty fan will know ....

And I'm hoping to finish this off in the next week or so ..... so I can get on to other projects ....

I'm planning on not wasting a minute of my retirement !!!

My current plan is fitness in the mornings (swimming, pilates, yoga, walking, walking, walking) and relaxation and spending time in my sewing room in the afternoons .... so far it is working quite well !!

Sunrise and #stitchtherapy365

What a spectacular sunrise yesterday morning as we walked the dogs along the beach .... it was truly beautiful and such a nice start to the day .....  having travelled a long way from home in the last week, I am constantly reminded of the beauty of the area in which we are lucky enough to live ......

I bought some cute little animal print fabrics in Japan at the Quilt Show and have made them into a small change mat for Chelsea and Kye's baby which is due in a couple of months ..... just need to put it together and quilt it now .....

And I have caught up on the days that I was away last week and am up to date with Helen Stubbings #stitchtherapy365 project ....

These are such fun stitcheries to complete .... some are small and some are larger ....

As per usual I have changed some of the colours suggested and am not embroidering on fabric and then appliquéing onto the background which Helen has done in some of hers ....

I think I will like the look of the whole panel completely embroidered when it is finally finished at the end of this year  !!!

Tokyo Quilt Show .... just a little bit more

I took so many photos at the Quilt Show and finally got around to the mini quilts or framed quilts which were just as amazing as the big quilts .....

The colours and addition of embroidery and embellishment was just incredible .....

There was a huge house - about 20 feet high and as wide - made out of fabric and put together like a jigsaw puzzle ..... a work of art !

So many beautiful pieces .....

The flowers in and around the Monets Garden display were all handmade .....

This lovely basket of "apples" was all handmade .....

The embroidery and appliqué work was astonishing and the three dimensional flowers on top just set off this beautiful quilt .....

A small section of one of the mini quilts ....

A cute little Christmas themed framed quilt ....

A secret garden with very intricate work on it .....

Stark and amazing work ....

Looking down the canal into this village was a piece of art ....

A very involved sewing room design ....

A close up of one of the village quilts ... all simply amazing ....
