Beautiful Birthday Gifts

I was very spoilt by Sylvia for my birthday with this beautiful little needle case from a design by Anni Downs .....

Anything that combines my favourite Liberty fabrics and linen is always going to be a hit and I just love the simplicity of this design .....   the inside is just beautiful too and the Liberty binding is gorgeous !

She also made a pack of some lovely fabrics together with Natalie Bird's new stitchery designs on a linen panel .... I will be very busy stitching these beautiful pieces .....

Also in the mail in the past week was the new Natalie Bird Block of the Month called Willowbrook Market Garden .... as you may have seen in a previous post, Natalie had the original quilt on display at the Sydney Quilt Show and it was lovely ..... I always love a design that incorporates embroidery and patchwork together so I am looking forward to making a start on this quilt too ....

The lovely fabrics and bits and pieces in the Block of the Month kit which I have purchased through Sarah at Patchwork Plus in Tasmania ..... Sarah also offers a beautiful quilting service too if you are interested !!

And our Wednesday crafty days with the boys continued yesterday .... they are really into painting and creating at the moment and the concentration on their faces was amazing ....

Such special days .... but never enough time to fit everything into our days .... off to Sydney again today for some special birthday celebrations for my niece who is turning 30, and our gorgeous Malia who is having her 1st birthday celebrations !!

Pincushion and Sydney Quilt Show

Today I have another pincushion to share and this is where my needle and thread are planted today .... I made this for a sewing retreat a few years ago and it is yet another favourite of mine !!

Whilst at the Quilt Show I came across a lovely stall which was selling cross stitch Christmas decorations hand crafted by women in Indonesia ....... Sew Exquisite was the name of the stall and I purchased a few which were just lovely ....

The name of the lady who handcrafted them was on the card on the back of the packet and I thought it was a lovely idea, even though I could easily stitch them myself, I think it is a great idea to support a cause providing employment and training in less fortunate communities.

This beautiful hexagon quilt was another favourite at the Quilt Show .... exquisitely made by Pauline Yianakis .....

Helen Granleese made this wonderful version of Lucy Boston .....

And another special quilt was this one by Lorena Uriarte called Winding Ways ..... I just love the splash of orange !!!!

I was so inspired at the Quilt Show to get a move on with some of my quilts so have come home and got stuck into my blocks for "Where We Love is Home" by Anni Downs .....

Sydney Quilt Show and Welcome Home

Firstly we are all very excited to welcome home our son Elliott from overseas deployment .... the last six months have been difficult for his wife and children and the rest of his family .... and him .... so it was lovely to welcome him home at the end of last week .... here he is with Malia and Jonah (the chef) .....

I managed to sneak away to Sydney for a day to the Sydney Quilt & Craft Show at Darling Harbour where I met up with Sylvia, Paddy, Adrienne and Jan from Canberra .... we had a lovely day wandering and appreciating and admiring the beautiful quilts .... and its always nice to catch up with Anni Downs on her stall which was beautiful ....

I loved seeing her "Where We Love Is Home" quilt in real life on the wall ... I'm working away on mine at the moment ....

Another quilt which I have taken on is Natalie Bird's new quilt called "Willowbrook Market Garden" and it was great to see that quilt on the wall on Natalie's stand also ....  I will be having a busy quilting year I think !!

The quilts were great and this display by Prudence Mapstone and her students was a crochet delight !

I loved the Quilt NSW Raffle Quilt .... beautifully put together by a group of ladies following the passing away of another ..... that's what its all about ..... a quilting journey .... and friendships ....

Amazing work on this quilt by Jenny Bowker ....

And love really does make the world go round as depicted in this great quilt by Sarah Fielke ..

It was lovely to meet up with Susan Reinhard again .... we met years ago through Chookyblue and I have followed her on Thimblestitch (Instagram) for a long time and am always totally blown away by her beautiful work ... it was lovely to see this quilt win a prize ....

Wendy Williams also won a prize for this quilt "Making Arrangements" .... always love Wendy's quilts ....

Another beautiful Wendy Williams quilt ....

And Susan again won a prize for her miniature quilt "Red Ringlets" .... her hand quilting is just beautiful ....

These were but a few of my favourite quilts on display .... it is always inspiring and always makes me think outside the square and outside my comfort zone sometimes ..... a lovely day out with a bit of retail therapy too !!!

Where We Love is Home Quilt

While I was away having a loving time in Italy, I received Blocks 2 and 3 of the beautiful Anni Downs Quilt "Where We Love is Home" ..... I'm hoping Anni has the original quilt at the Sydney Quilt & Craft Show this week (I'm sneaking off for a visit) .....

I'm loving all the colours and designs ... a little outside my normal comfort zone but any Anni design is perfect I think !!

And I do love the neighbourhood houses in this Block No. 3 !

The kits are so beautifully packaged and the fabrics are amazing !!!

Now I really must get into them so I don't get behind !!

Hopefully by next week I will have some progress to share .....

Pincushion No. 2 and 90th birthday celebrations

This is week 2 of sharing my pincushions .... and this is where my needle and thread are placed today ... I made this colourful canvas work pincushion a few years ago and I love it !!!

We had a great weekend up north celebrating my dad's 90th birthday with all the family.  He turned 90 the day after I turned 60 in May but this was the first chance we all had to be together ... and with six children and partners, that isn't always easy ....

Here are my mum and dad with the cake stand which I made .... my dad is a bit of a sweet tooth and loves nothing better than a sponge cake with icing and lollies on it so that was what he got !!!

My dad only has one sister who is younger than him and she came up to celebrate also ....  funnily enough it was her daughter Margot that celebrated her 60th  birthday with me in Italy !!

Not all the grandchildren and great grandchildren could make it but here is a family photo .... if we all got together there would be 46 (and a half) ....

It was Malia's 1st birthday last week and she celebrated with a cake at Day Care .... her birthday party will be next week when her dad is finally home from overseas ..... can't wait for that !!

Jed and Clay had fun doing some painting craft at our place last week ..... Clay chose to paint a wooden crocodile .... very colourful ....

And Jed loved painting this photo frame .... very bright and colourful and then we found photos of Jed, Clay and Lyndie to put inside the frame ..... he gave it to his mum and dad when he got home and they loved it !!

On the way up north we spent the night with Chelsea and Kye and managed to have some sneaky early morning cuddles with Leo before we left ...

After dad's birthday celebrations we visited good friends in Salamander Bay and were visited on the balcony by this very friendly kookaburra looking for some food ....

Pincushion Fun ..... and grandchildren

I saw something recently that seemed like a fun idea and that was to highlight one pincushion a week ... I have lots of pincushions so here goes ....

This is one of my favourites and one I use very regularly ..... embroidered with beautiful garden flowers ..... this is where my needle and thread are placed today ......  look out for another pincushion next week !!

I am just back from a long weekend in Sydney staying with Chelsea and Leo while Kye and David walked the Six Foot Track from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains to Jenolan Caves .... and trust me I was in the better spot !!!     It had been snowing in Katoomba earlier last week so it was quite a chilly walk for 3 days for them.

We went to the beach a couple of days for walks along the headlands with Leo ....  the weather was beautiful and sunny ....

Leo fell asleep in the Nespresso shop while we were buying pods for our coffee machine ....

We went to visit Sam and Nadia in Collaroy and caught up with them and Sam had cuddles with Leo which was lovely ..... This is my eldest son and youngest daughter ....

This gorgeous little man is only 7 weeks old and he just loves to sit still and be read to .... or at least thats what I tell myself .... here he is enjoying yet another Winnie the Pooh book !!

Special cuddle time .... so precious !!

And then all too soon, his dad arrived home and he was very happy to see him !!

Andrea sent through this cute pic of Jonah and Malia all rugged up against the Sydney cold weather last week .... they are looking forward to their dad coming back from overseas deployment next week !!    We are all of course looking forward to that very much !!

I had a couple of hours with these little monkeys last Friday morning .... soccer was on the agenda and I was run around the back yard by these two ....

And Lyndie finally woke up and enjoyed her afternoon tea snack .....  all too cute and way too cuddly for this happy grandmother !!    And I promise I am stitching too !!!
